    The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) supports small-scale, high-impact projects in developing countries that align with Global Affairs Canada’s thematic priority areas for engagement.

    The CFLI focuses on supporting local civil society organizations, academic institutions, municipal and regional government bodies, international NGOs, intergovernmental and multilateral organizations, and Canadian NGOs working on local development activities, fostering positive bilateral relations and community-led initiatives.

    The CFLI prioritizes projects that are conceived and designed predominantly by local partners, deliver measurable results, and contribute to strengthening local civil society and positive relations between Canada and recipient countries. It encourages innovative projects that address local needs while remaining consistent with the program’s objectives.

    Eligible recipients include local non-governmental, community and not-for-profit organizations, local academic institutions working on local projects, international non-governmental organizations collaborating with local partners, intergovernmental, multilateral and regional institutions, municipal, regional or national government agencies working on local projects, and Canadian NGOs engaged in local development activities. The program typically provides contributions ranging from CAD$20,000 to CAD$50,000 per project, with $50,000 being the maximum allocation.

    Funding may cover a wide range of project-related costs, including administrative and overhead costs, capital and operating expenditures for infrastructure, installation, maintenance, shipping, and transportation, computers and communication devices, internet costs, salaries, civic education, conferences and events, hospitality excluding alcoholic beverages, training and capacity building, services received, outreach and communication, environmental assessment, advocacy and lobbying, legal and accounting services, medical expenses, publishing, radio and television fees, facility and equipment rentals, research, security, translation and interpretation, travel using economy fares, vehicle lease and operation, website development, and other miscellaneous costs integral to the project. Overhead costs should generally not exceed 15%, though higher thresholds may be considered depending on local context, security, and project complexity.

    Mandela Rhodes Scholarship Programme

    The Mandela Rhodes Scholarship is inviting applications to support a leadership programme that will challenge you, grow you and connect you to young African changemakers – just like you.

    The leadership development programme is delivered primarily through a series of week-long residential workshops attended during the scholar’s time in residence. It focuses on equipping young leaders with the competence and courage to contribute meaningfully toward creating equal opportunities across the African continent.

    The scholarship provides comprehensive funding for core study-related expenses. It supports a one-year Honours degree or a two-year Master’s degree in any field at a recognised South African higher education institution. Financial support includes tuition and registration fees paid directly to the institution, along with allowances for study materials, accommodation, meals, medical aid, and personal expenses. Additional support may be available for research and conference participation upon request, and economy-class travel is covered at the beginning and end of the academic programme.

    Certain costs are not included in the funding. Applicants are responsible for university application fees, accreditation of prior qualifications through SAQA if required, and visa-related expenses. Allowances are disbursed twice annually, subject to submission of proof of registration and academic progress reports. Any financial obligations incurred prior to becoming a scholar remain the individual’s responsibility.

    The scholarship is highly competitive and seeks candidates who demonstrate both academic excellence and strong character. Applicants are expected to have achieved at least 70% or an upper second-class equivalent and must show evidence of leadership experience within their community or academic environment.

    Eligibility is limited to individuals aged between 19 and 29 at the time of application, provided they are under 30 when the scholarship is taken up. Only citizens of African countries are eligible, regardless of their current place of residence or study. The programme requires full-time, in-person study at a South African institution, and distance learning or study in one’s home country is not permitted.

    The One Young World is pleased to announce its Sandoz Scholarship to support young leaders tackling systemic barriers to healthcare in their communities, countries or the world at large.

    The scholarship focuses on supporting initiatives such as creating digital or AI tools to expand healthcare access in underserved areas, developing supply-chain solutions for delivering essential medicines to remote regions, running health education or training programs in underserved communities, and advocating for policies that make healthcare and medicines more affordable and accessible.

    Through this initiative, five outstanding young leaders will be selected to join the global Sandoz delegation at the One Young World Summit scheduled from 3–6 November 2025 in Cape Town. This platform enables participants to connect with like-minded changemakers, collaborate on global health challenges, and amplify their impact through shared learning and engagement.

    Selected scholars will receive full access to the One Young World Summit, hotel accommodation in Cape Town from 2 to 7 November, economy-class travel, meals including breakfast, lunch, and dinner on core Summit days, and ground transportation between accommodation and the venue. They will also participate in Sandoz-hosted sessions and benefit from a dedicated “buddy” system to enhance networking and engagement throughout the program.

    The scholarship is designed for early-stage leaders who demonstrate a strong commitment to creating positive change in healthcare systems and addressing inequalities in access to medicines and care. Applicants are expected to show leadership potential, a clear understanding of healthcare challenges within their communities or globally, and proven experience in implementing practical or innovative solutions.

    Eligibility requires applicants to be between 18 and 30 years old, although individuals above 30 may be considered if they demonstrate exceptional impact, initiative, and willingness to engage.     The OBEL Teaching Fellowship Program invites global applicants to collaborate with academic institutions to develop innovative courses exploring transformative architectural practices.

    The OBEL Teaching Fellowships aim to bridge the gap between professional practice and academia by introducing new voices into accredited academic programs.     Mo Ibrahim Foundation Academy Fellowship Program

    The Chatham House has launched its Mo Ibrahim Foundation Academy Fellowship Program to support early-to-mid-career professionals from African countries to spend ten months at Chatham House working on an independently designed research project while developing leadership skills and expanding their professional networks in international affairs.

    The fellowship focuses on completing a personal research project, participating in a Leadership Masterclass Programme, and contributing to ongoing research activities aligned with Chatham House’s mission. The Leadership Masterclass Programme forms a core part of the fellowship and includes an intensive induction week, thematic sessions on global challenges, leadership skills workshops, leadership briefings with global experts, project presentations, personal development coaching, media training, and optional career mentoring. These components are designed to strengthen leadership capacity, enhance professional skills, and build global networks.

    Funding for the fellowship includes a monthly stipend of £2,565 to cover living expenses in London, including accommodation, food, utilities, and transport. In addition, they cover relocation costs such as travel, accommodation support, and visa fees, including sponsorship where required. The UK Immigration Health Surcharge is also included, along with research-related expenses for fieldwork, outreach, events, and publications. Upon successful completion, fellows gain access to the Academy’s faculty and alumni network, as well as a five-year Chatham House membership.

    Eligibility criteria require applicants to be citizens of any African country, including those holding dual nationality with an African country. Applicants must have completed a BA degree or equivalent and demonstrate experience in conducting research. The fellowship is intended for individuals at the early-to-mid-stage of their careers working in academia, NGOs, business, government, civil society, or the media, with a clear interest in international affairs and relevant research areas.     The German-Israeli Journalism Programme offers a unique opportunity for young journalists from the Middle East to engage in professional exchange and gain firsthand experience of media and society in Germany.

    The fellowship aims to foster intensive dialogue between media outlets in regions affected by conflict while encouraging exchange between journalists from Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, Israel, and Germany, promoting early-career understanding of political and social issues in Germany, strengthening awareness of relations between Germany and the Middle East, providing insight into culture, mentality, and everyday life in Germany and the European Union, and building long-term professional networks among journalists.

    The programme enables up to five journalists from the Middle East to undertake a two-month travel and work stay in Germany, while also offering German journalists the opportunity to spend two months in the Middle East. It is organized in cooperation with governmental institutions, foundations, and sponsors across Germany and the Middle East. The fellowship begins with an introductory conference in Berlin at the end of October, followed by a two-week intensive German language course for Middle Eastern participants. Fellows then proceed to a two-month placement with a German media organization, where they gain practical exposure and connect with professionals in the field.

    The fellowship provides a one-time grant of 5,000 euros, which includes a stipend and a travel allowance of 1,000 euros. This funding is intended to cover a significant portion of travel, accommodation, and living expenses, although participants are expected to contribute partially. There is no additional remuneration for journalistic work undertaken during the programme.

    Eligibility is open to citizens of Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, the Palestinian Territories, and Israel between the ages of 21 and 37 who are working as regular employees, trainees, or journalists with established media outlets. Applicants must demonstrate strong proficiency in English, while knowledge of German is considered an advantage but is not mandatory.

    About the Role

    The Quality Assurance Officer is the site authority for food safety and quality assurance. The role has independent authority to approve or reject raw materials, in-process products, and finished products based on defined specifications.

    Responsibilities

    Product Integrity & Quality Assurance

    • Finished Product Compliance: Oversee the grading and classification of macadamia kernels to ensure they meet international standards and customer specifications regarding size, color, and quality defect limits.
    • In Process Quality Control: Manage the hourly sampling regime at key stages (Cracking, Sorting, Drying). Ensure operators are correctly identifying critical defects such as immature nuts, insect damage, and mold.
    • Sensory Analysis: Enforce organoleptic testing protocols to detect early signs of rancidity (oxidative stability) or off-flavors caused by improper drying or storage.
    • Hold & Release: Authority to place On Hold any batch of nuts that fails moisture specs or shows signs of contamination, preventing it from reaching the packing line.
    • Verify monitoring records for defined Critical Control Points (e.g., drying temperatures for Salmonella control, metal detection for physical hazards).
    • Conduct independent verification checks on CCP records to ensure accuracy and prevent record falsification
    • Monitor Operational Prerequisite Programs (OPRPs) such as allergen controls (if applicable), sieving, or sorting performance.
    • Immediately escalate deviations from critical limits and ensure corrective actions are implemented and documented.

    Management of Team Performance (Quality of Inspectors)

    • Monitoring the Monitors: You are responsible for the accuracy of your team.
    • QA Inspectors: Support in the incoming material checks, in process line checks, sorting/operators team quality of work against standards and final packing inspectors quality of work
    • Sanitation Inspectors: Inspect the cleaners work after they finish but before production starts. Provide immediate feedback if residue is found.
    • Training & Competency: Maintain training matrices for both teams. Ensure sanitation staff understand Hygiene, sanitation and chemical safety and QA staff understand sampling validity, process checks and customer requirements
    • Resource Allocation: Manage shift rotas to ensure coverage during peak seasons, ensuring no production line runs without QA presence and no cleanup happens without supervision.

    Final Product Confirmation & Release Support

    • Review laboratory results, moisture confirmations, grading reports, and packaging compliance before recommending product release
    • Verify finished products meet internal specifications, export standards, and customer-specific requirements
    • Ensure finished products are not dispatched without documented quality confirmation
    • Maintain records of product approvals and quality release confirmations

    Prerequisite Programs (PRP) Inspection & Reporting

    • Conduct routine PRP inspections covering sanitation effectiveness, pest control trends, glass & hard plastic control, environmental monitoring, hygiene compliance, and waste management
    • Review pest control service reports and escalate adverse trends
    • Support zoning enforcement between Low Risk and High Care areas to prevent cross-contamination
    • Document inspection findings and report gaps for corrective action

    Job Overview/Summary:

    The Application Support Specialist at the IRC will provide timely support for communication and collaboration tools at the IRC, including Microsoft Teams, Box, OneDrive, SharePoint & RescueNet as well as project management tools including Monday.com and Jira.     Major Responsibilities:

    Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Provide timely L1 and L2 application support by troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving issues across IRC productivity tools and supported systems, ensuring minimal disruption to users.
    • Perform routine maintenance and continuous improvement activities on supported systems in coordination with Associate Director of Application Support and relevant stakeholders.

    Our Uganda program, founded in 2014, provides more than 34,000 farmers with quality farm supplies as well as fruit trees like avocados. Our team in Uganda is headquartered in Jinja, close to the districts we serve, and supported by a small presence in Kampala.     About the Role

    Seeking a results-driven field leader to coordinate and scale the Coffee and Agroforestry extension program in Central Western Uganda, improving field performance, farmer impact, and revenue through training, input sales, and market access.

    Responsibilities

    Lead & Coach

    • Manage a decentralised team of Field Managers, building a culture of high performance and accountability

    Execute at Scale

    • Oversee the end-to-end delivery of Training, Input Sales, and Market Access.

    Drive Growth

    • Directly influence farmer livelihoods and program revenue by optimising field systems and logistics.

    Collaborate

    • Work closely with operations teams to tackle logistical hurdles and ensure seamless farmer service in the rural areas

    Qualifications

    Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

    • Bachelor’s or Diploma in Agriculture or related fields
    • Field-Tested Leadership: Experience managing large, remote teams in rural settings. You know how to motivate people you don’t see every day.
    • Project Mastery: A track record in agricultural extension or new market expansion.
    • Strategic Execution: The ability to balance hands-on field troubleshooting with long-term OKR planning and budgeting.
    • Communication: Fluent in translating complex strategies into clear, actionable priorities for field teams.
    • Proficient in G-Suite and comfortable using data (G-Sheets) to drive decisions.

    Nice to have

    • Proven experience in agricultural extension, specifically in translating technical coffee and agroforestry knowledge into farmer-friendly, high-impact training.
