  • Research Manager

The Research Manager conducts rigorous, high-quality research to support PowerSwitch Action’s campaigns, programs, and long-term planning. They produce a range of internal and public-facing research products, from strategic corporate research and landscape and industry analyses to policy analyses, public reports, and briefs, and present findings to the PowerSwitch network and other stakeholders. Working closely with cross-departmental teams, the Research Manager is a key participant in strategy development processes and identifies emerging research needs. The role may supervise staff, interns, or contractors.

    About PowerSwitch Action

PowerSwitch Action (formerly the Partnership for Working Families) is a national network of 21 grassroots organizations pioneering innovative policy and organizing approaches in cities, counties, and states around the US. Our long-term agenda, developed in close collaboration with our affiliates, is to forge multiracial feminist democracy and economies — starting in our cities and sparking national transformation.

Our affiliates weave strategic alliances and alignments amongst labor, neighborhood, housing, racial justice, faith, ethnic-based, and environmental groups. We organize communities, advocate for policy change, and shift power from corporations to the people whose labor has been exploited and voices excluded.

As authoritarians assault our communities and attempt to seize even more power, we’ve focused our work on halting the drive towards autocracy. Together with our affiliates and partners, we are working to:

    • Significantly increase the number of people prepared to defy the autocrats and build a civic participation renaissance.
    • Pull cogs from the authoritarian machine: challenging the corporations powering it, insisting our elected and civic leaders refuse to cooperate, and making the stakes clear to those who are tuned out or conflicted.
    • Counter doom and division with hopeful alternatives that meet people’s needs.

We are not trying to walk back to an old system that failed far too many of us (and created conditions that were ripe for the authoritarians). We are building people power to lay a new road: one leading to a world where our communities are powerful, in control of our lives, and cherished by our institutions and each other.

  • Regional Grants Manager

    Position: Regional Grants Manager
Location: Virtual or In-Person with travel regional & International
    Reports to: Regional Programme Director
    Line Manager: SIHA Regional Director
    Contract Type: Full Time

    Background

The Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) is a regional feminist network comprising women’s rights organizations and activists working to advance gender equality, women’s rights, peace, security, and social justice across the Greater Horn of Africa. SIHA works in partnership with grassroots organizations, civil society actors, and regional and international stakeholders to strengthen feminist movements, promote women’s leadership, prevent and respond to violence against women and girls, and influence policies and practices that advance the rights of women and girls. SIHA implements a diverse portfolio of regional and country-level programmes funded by a range of institutional donors and implemented across multiple countries in the region. These programmes span humanitarian response, women, peace and security, governance, movement building, economic justice, research, advocacy, and organizational strengthening. Through its regional secretariat and country teams, SIHA works closely with partner organizations to ensure high-quality programme delivery, accountability, learning, and sustainable impact for women and girls across the region.

    Summary of the Position

The Regional Grants Manager provides strategic leadership and oversight of SIHA’s regional grants management function, ensuring the effective management of institutional grants and sub-granting portfolios across the Greater Horn of Africa. The position leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of SIHA’s grants management systems, policies, and practices to ensure compliance with donor requirements while promoting efficient, transparent, and accountable grant management. Working closely with the Regional Programme Director, Finance, MEL, Compliance, Country Coordinators, and programme teams, the Regional Grants Manager oversees the full grants lifecycle—from proposal development and due diligence through implementation, monitoring, reporting, partner accompaniment, and close-out. The role also leads SIHA’s regional grants team and provides strategic oversight of complex multi-country grant-making initiatives, including large-scale flexible funding and accompaniment mechanisms that strengthen women’s rights organizations, women-led organizations, and feminist movements across the region.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Regional Grants Leadership and Strategy: Lead SIHA’s regional grants management function by developing and strengthening grants management systems, policies, procedures, and tools that promote accountability, efficiency, transparency, and compliance across the organization. Provide strategic advice to senior management on grants management, donor compliance, institutional risk, and partner management while continuously improving organizational grants processes and systems.
    2. Grant Lifecycle Management: Oversee the complete grants management cycle for institutional grants and sub-grants, including proposal review, due diligence, agreement development, budget verification, implementation monitoring, modifications, reporting, audits, close-out, and archival. Ensure grants are administered consistently in accordance with donor agreements, organizational policies, and applicable regulations.
    3. Partner Due Diligence, Grant-Making and Accompaniment: Lead SIHA’s regional grant-making processes by overseeing partner identification, organizational assessments, due diligence, risk analysis, grant selection, contracting, and onboarding. Work closely with programme teams to coordinate partner accompaniment, institutional strengthening, compliance support, and capacity development, ensuring grant-making contributes to both effective programme delivery and long-term organizational sustainability.
    4. Compliance, Risk Management and Quality Assurance: Monitor compliance with donor agreements, grant conditions, safeguarding requirements, procurement standards, financial controls, and SIHA policies across all grant portfolios. Identify compliance risks, recommend mitigation measures, coordinate corrective actions, and support internal and external audits while promoting high standards of grants management and organizational accountability.
    5. Grants Monitoring, Reporting and Financial Oversight: Coordinate grants monitoring systems and oversee the timely submission of financial and narrative reports by partners and programme teams. Work closely with Finance, MEL, and programme staff to monitor grant performance, budget utilization, burn rates, reporting schedules, deliverables, and implementation progress, ensuring accurate reporting and timely decision-making.
    6. Team Leadership and Capacity Strengthening: Lead and supervise the regional grants and in-country team, providing technical guidance, mentoring, performance management, and professional development. Strengthen the grants management capacity of SIHA staff, Country Coordinators, and implementing partners through training, coaching, guidance materials, and continuous technical support on donor compliance, grants administration, and organizational policies.
    1. Donor and Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as SIHA’s focal point on grants management with institutional donors, consortium partners, auditors, and implementing partners. Support proposal development, donor negotiations, grant modifications, monitoring visits, and compliance reviews while maintaining productive working relationships that strengthen donor confidence and partnership effectiveness.
    2. Systems Development and Organizational Learning: Promote continuous improvement of SIHA’s grants management function by developing standardized tools, templates, guidance, digital tracking systems, and reporting mechanisms. Analyze grants performance data, document lessons learned and best practices, and contribute to organizational learning and the ongoing strengthening of SIHA’s grant-making and partner accompaniment model.

    Required Qualifications and Competencies

    1. Master’s degree in international development, Project Management, Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, Law, Development Studies, or another relevant discipline. Professional certification in grants management, project management, procurement, or compliance is an added advantage.
    2. A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience managing institutional grants within civil society, international development, humanitarian, or non-governmental organizations, including at least five (5) years in a senior grants management role. Demonstrated experience managing complex multi-country donor-funded programmes, coordinating large grant portfolios, and overseeing sub-granting mechanisms is essential. Experience working with women’s rights organizations, feminist movements, or locally led development initiatives is highly desirable.
    3. Demonstrated knowledge of grants management throughout the full grant lifecycle, including proposal development, due diligence, grant-making, partner assessments, contract management, compliance, financial monitoring, donor reporting, audits, risk management, and grant close-out. Strong understanding of institutional donor regulations, partnership management, organizational capacity strengthening, safeguarding, and grants compliance systems is required. Experience managing flexible funding mechanisms and partner accompaniment approaches is an advantage.
    4. Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex grants and competing priorities simultaneously. Strong negotiation, problem-solving, report writing, and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, coordinate across departments, and build effective partnerships with donors and implementing partners. High attention to detail and the ability to identify and mitigate compliance and operational risks are essential.
    5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, is required. Experience using grants management systems, financial management software, project management platforms, and online collaboration tools is highly desirable. Advanced Excel skills for grant tracking, budget monitoring, and reporting are an advantage.
    6. Demonstrated integrity, accountability, professionalism, and sound judgment, with the ability to manage confidential information and make objective decisions in complex environments. The successful candidate should possess excellent leadership, relationship management, and mentoring skills, with the ability to foster collaboration, strengthen organizational capacity, and work effectively across multicultural teams while upholding SIHA’s feminist values, commitment to women’s rights, and safeguarding principles.

SIHA is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and feminist workplace. We welcome applications from qualified candidates of all backgrounds and do not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, disability, age, religion, or any other protected status. • Reporting to: Communications Manager
    • Team: Communications team (Communications Manager and Content Manager)

    About the role

The Digital Communications Officer is responsible for the management, maintenance, and performance of On Think Tanks’ digital platforms. This is an operational role at the heart of the team’s day-to-day work: ensuring content reaches the right audiences on time, platforms are functioning correctly, and the user journey across our digital presence is smooth and purposeful.

This person works closely with the Communications Manager (who sets strategy and editorial direction) and the Content Manager (who produces content), focusing on the technical, operational, and community-facing dimensions of our digital communications. In practice, this means publishing content, managing our platforms, looking after our communities, and keeping a constant eye on how our audiences are experiencing our digital spaces, flagging issues and proposing improvements where needed.

Although tasks are clearly distributed across the team, we work collaboratively: the Digital Communications Officer is expected to actively contribute to team discussions, share ideas, and support colleagues across functions when needed.

    Key responsibilities

    Social media and community platforms

    • Manage On Think Tanks’ social media accounts (LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Instagram, and others), scheduling, publishing, and disseminating content prepared by the Content Manager.
    • Manage the organisation’s community social media spaces (groups, forums, and membership platforms), ensuring timely posting, appropriate moderation, and active engagement.
    • Monitor interactions, respond to comments and messages as appropriate, and flag relevant activity to the Communications Manager.
    • Keep platform profiles, bios, and pinned content up to date.

    Website Management

    • Administer and maintain the organisation’s website: uploading content, creating and updating pages, managing menus and navigation, and ensuring all information is current and accurate.
    • Conduct regular content audits to identify outdated, missing, or inconsistent information or navigation.
    • Coordinate with external web providers or developers when technical issues arise, serving as the primary point of contact.
    • Ensure the website is functional, accessible, and aligned with the organisation’s brand standards.

    User journey and digital experience

    • Regularly audit and test the user journey across the organisation’s digital platforms (website, newsletter, social media, Patreon) to ensure a consistent, seamless experience for all audiences, engagement and conversion, also creating automated journeys where needed.
    • Identify friction points, broken links, inconsistent messaging, or accessibility issues and take corrective action or escalate as appropriate.
    • Propose improvements to platform structure, navigation, and digital touchpoints based on user experience observations and performance data.
    • Ensure that key audience pathways, from discovery to engagement to conversion, are functioning correctly and aligned with communications objectives.

    Patreon and membership platforms

    • Manage and update the Patreon page: publishing posts, managing member tiers, and ensuring content is delivered to members on schedule.
    • Monitor members’ activity, manage the community’s interaction and engagement, and flag issues or opportunities to the Communications Manager.

    Email marketing and database management

    • Manage the organisation’s Mailchimp account, ensuring the platform is correctly set up and functioning well.
    • Keep the contact database up to date: processing new subscribers, managing lists and segmentation, and maintaining data hygiene.
    • Troubleshoot delivery issues, unsubscribe requests, and bounce management on an ongoing basis.
    • Coordinate with the Communications Manager on audience lists for institutional communications, project newsletters, and initiatives.

    SEO, advertising, and reach

    • Implement and monitor SEO best practices across the website and digital platforms to improve organic visibility.
    • Support the management of paid advertising campaigns (social media and search) to expand reach to new audiences and priority regions based on the strategies planned by the team.
    • Track and report on conversions and engagement resulting from organic and paid activity.

    Jobs board and events calendar

    • Manage the organisation’s jobs board and events calendar: publishing listings, keeping information current, and removing outdated entries.
    • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure timely and accurate publication of opportunities and events.

    Platform administration and access management

    • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of digital platform accounts, access credentials, and administrative permissions.
    • Ensure proper documentation and handover of accounts when team members change.
    • Coordinate with the Communications Manager on platform subscriptions, renewals, and tools.

    Monitoring and continuous improvement

    • Collect and compile performance data from digital platforms (website traffic, social media reach and engagement, email metrics, Patreon) regularly.
    • Contribute to monthly or quarterly communications reporting, providing data and analysis to support the team’s review.
    • Propose and implement improvements to platform settings, publishing workflows, and digital user experience based on performance data and platform updates.
    • Stay up to date with platform changes, algorithm updates, new features, policy changes, and advise the team accordingly.

    Required skills and experience

    • At least 3 years of experience in digital communications, community management, or equivalent role.
    • Experience managing organisational social media accounts across multiple platforms.
    • Experience with website administration (WordPress or a similar CMS).
    • Familiarity with Mailchimp or equivalent email marketing platforms, including list and database management.
    • Demonstrable experience using digital analytics tools and platform dashboards (Google Analytics, Meta Business Suite, or equivalent) to track performance and inform decisions.
    • Basic understanding of SEO principles and their practical application, including experience managing or supporting paid advertising campaigns.
    • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage time. You will need to independently coordinate and oversee multiple platform tasks and publishing schedules simultaneously.
    • Ability to work independently (OTT has a fully remote team) and at the same time coordinate and collaborate with various team members.
    • A willingness to learn on the job and take advantage of new technologies and tools, including an entrepreneurial mindset towards continuous improvement of how we manage our digital presence.
    • Strong written and spoken English, this is the working language of the team and all communication outputs.
    • Experience with Patreon or similar membership and community platforms (desirable).
    • Experience managing paid social media or search advertising campaigns (desirable).
    • Knowledge of web accessibility standards.
    • Experience in the non-profit, think tank, or international development sector (desirable).
    • A second language (French or Spanish).

    Required profile

We are looking for someone who brings the following to the team:

Reliability You take pride in following through on your commitments. The team relies on content going live on time and platforms running smoothly, and you find satisfaction in being the person others can count on.
Active and proactive You are genuinely curious about the platforms you manage and naturally stay on top of updates and trends that affect your work. When you spot something that could be improved, you bring it up and help find a way forward.
Collaborative Although roles are clearly defined, we work as a team. You are happy to support colleagues, share ideas across functions, and contribute beyond your immediate task list when the situation calls for it.
Organised and methodical You manage multiple platforms and tasks simultaneously without things falling through the cracks. You keep documentation tidy and records up to date.
User-focused You think about how people experience our platforms and take pride in making that experience as clear and frictionless as possible.
Clear communicator You can explain technical issues in plain language to non-technical colleagues and write clearly and professionally in English.
Curious and adaptable Digital platforms change constantly. You are comfortable learning new tools, adapting to updates, and sharing what you learn with the rest of the team.

    Remuneration

This is a part-time position (approximately 50%  full-time hours), with a monthly remuneration of USD 950. The rate reflects both the scope of the role and our salary benchmarks for this type of position.

  • Associate Program Officer

CEA is seeking an Associate Program Officer for the Transformative AI Fund, the new fund within EA Funds supporting early-stage work on transformative AI. This includes work that prevents global catastrophic risks (GCRs) and supporting fields, such as field-building and forecasting. You’ll report to and work directly alongside the Head of the Transformative AI Fund to ensure the success of the fund, primarily through identifying the grant applications that will most advance the goals of the fund. Because we’re building the fund from the ground up, you’ll have substantial autonomy in your work and will help shape the systems that will run for years. We’re also open to a more junior hire with deep knowledge of the field and high agency.

    About CEA

The Centre for Effective Altruism (CEA) stewards the movement of people putting effective altruism principles into practice to solve the world’s most pressing problems. We’re working to build a flourishing future by applying evidence, reason, and compassion to challenges like global poverty, animal suffering, and existential risks.

Our work centers on growing and supporting a global community of people who rigorously analyze where they can do the most good—and take action on those insights. Current strategic priorities include increasing understanding of effective altruism and its principles, growing the number of people who are motivated by EA principles to take significant action to address pressing problems, and diversifying funding sources for high-impact work.

We had significant success in 2025, building momentum within CEA. Our headcount grew from 42 to 66 core staff. Program participation (e.g., events, courses, groups) grew by 20-25% year over year. We merged with EA Funds and are rapidly scaling up our capacity for grantmaking and associated fundraising.

In 2026, we’re maintaining ambitious momentum while building the foundations for a step-change in the wider EA ecosystem’s growth trajectory from 2027 onwards.

About EA Funds’ Transformative AI Fund (TAIF)

Effective Altruism Funds (EA Funds) is the grantmaking arm of CEA and aims to increase the amount of funding that is dedicated to particularly cost-effective and altruistically impactful projects across global health & development, animal welfare, Transformative AI and EA infrastructure.

The Transformative AI Fund is EA Funds’ new fund. Our primary focus is reducing global catastrophic risks through grants within Technical AI Safety, AI Governance (including post-AGI governance), and contributing fields such as field-building and forecasting. We’re also open to relevant areas like Flourishing Futures and Digital Sentience, though these will be a small minority of grants. Our vision is for the Transformative AI Fund to be a go-to fund for any individual or organization starting something new within the transformative AI space to get their project off the ground.

We’re addressing a funding gap at the earliest stages, in the $10k-$150k range: we can be the first backer of small projects that otherwise wouldn’t happen, at a size most other funders struggle to serve. At this scale, funding is often all-or-nothing: does the pilot run? Does the event happen? This is hits-based giving: many grants will have no or modest outcomes, with the occasional home run paying for the entire portfolio. With a  funding influx anticipated over the coming years, we believe that supporting promising early-stage projects helps grow the field and its absorptive capacity.

    The Fund’s principles:

    • Early-stage funding: funding grants that are too small for other funders, usually in the $10k-$150k range.
    • Transparent by default: quarterly public grant reports on what we choose to fund and why, building trust and dialogue with donors and grantees.
    • Always open, with quick and reliable responses: opportunities rarely arrive on a given schedule, and we want to be able to pounce when they arise.

This is a particularly exciting time to join the Transformative AI Fund. We’re committing significant resources to the fund, with a new full-time team: Lowe Lundinas Head of the TAIF and Loïc Watine as Director of EA Funds, with Caleb Parikh advising. We’re also in the final stages of hiring a dedicated operations person for all of EA Funds, and hope to make more hires on the grantmaking team in the not-too-distant future if we’re happy with the trajectory of the fund. We’ve been very impressed by the recent trajectory of EA Funds’ Animal Welfare Fund, which set an ambitious strategy and raised significant funds to execute it under full-time leadership, and we believe the Transformative AI Fund has similar potential.

You can read more about the fund in this EA forum post here.

    About the role

AI development is accelerating, and the next few years may be unusually important for shaping how advanced AI systems are built and governed. Early-stage grantmaking puts you at the frontier of the field: you’ll see new research agendas, founders, and organizations before almost anyone else, e.g. a researcher with an unconventional agenda, a first-time founder with a governance idea, a small team that needs six months of runway. These land on your desk, and the grants you make are often the first decisive input that helps a promising project get off the ground and grow into something that leads to scalable impact.

You would also be joining the early stage of the fund’s own team: the future trajectory of the fund is being set now, and you’ll have a hand in building the processes, systems, and tools that will run for years.

Your primary job will still be the craft of grantmaking itself, and you’ll spend the majority of your time on it: investigating applications, forming judgments, making the case for grants, and communicating decisions. We expect a meaningful share of our best grants to be things we wouldn’t have known to solicit, so a key part of this role is to back ideas nobody thought to ask for.

You’ll work very closely with the Head of the TAIF, with short feedback loops and increasing discretion as you demonstrate your judgment. Over time, you’ll have a lot of autonomy to run your own projects and grow in the role. We’re looking for someone with an entrepreneurial mindset who is comfortable working in an environment where not everything is settled yet and who proposes solutions without waiting to be asked. As the fund grows, we expect this role to grow with it.

    • Investigate and evaluate grant opportunities rigorously, assessing theories of change, team strength, expected impact, and other relevant factors
    • Communicate your grantmaking reasoning transparently through grant reports, feedback to applicants, and public writing
    • Source high-quality applications based on your strategic insights, networks, and the fund’s priorities

    Ecosystem development

    • Collaborate and build partnerships with other funders and organizations working in relevant areas
    • Manage relationships with grantees, offer support and guidance to increase the impact of their work
    • Act as a responsive and professional point of contact for applicants
    • Represent the fund at EA and AI safety community events
    • Contribute to the broader EA, AI safety, and longtermist communities’ thinking on funding and other strategic priorities

    Contributing to systems & tooling

    • Track metrics and flag where we’re falling short of our commitments
    • Contribute to improvements in the grantmaking processes of Transformative AI Fund. Build and iterate on tooling (including LLM-assisted workflows) that cuts repetitive work out of evaluation, so that human judgment goes to where it matters most

    What we’re looking for

We’re interested in a wide range of backgrounds, and we expect strong candidates to show depth in some of the areas below while actively developing in others.

We’re also open to hiring someone earlier in their career that demonstrates strong early signals to grow and develop quickly with the close mentorship from the Head of the TAIF. This version of the role would sit one grade lower on the compensation band.

You might be a great fit for this role if you have:

    • Deep knowledge of AI safety and/or AI governance: you keep up to date on key research directions, major organizations, ongoing debates, and the people doing important work. You can navigate nuanced conversations about AI progress with people who hold a wide range of views on timelines, implications, risks, and potential solutions.
    • Agency: you’re proactive and take initiative where you see the gaps. That might mean reaching out to an expert to pressure-test a technical claim or understand how a proposal sits within the wider field, or approaching promising grantees to encourage them to apply. It also involves proposing improvements in our ways of working, such as our grantmaking processes.
    • Excellent analytical skills and judgment under time pressure:  you’re comfortable weighing evidence and making decisions with incomplete information and under time pressure, while recognising which higher-stake decisions warrant more time. You can tell a weak proposal from an unfamiliar one, and back unproven ideas where the potential impact justifies the risk.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills:  you’re able to represent the Transformative AI Fund and CEA professionally, and build trust with a range of stakeholders. You can articulate complex reasoning behind your decisions, and navigate sensitive conversations with applicants and grantees.
    • Mission and values alignment: you’re committed to achieving exceptional positive social impact and have an appreciation of effective altruism principles; deep familiarity with the EA community isn’t required. You demonstratereasoning transparency and change your mind based on strong evidence and reasoning.
    • Pre-existing networks in the AI safety ecosystems: you’re well-connected in the AI safety and/or AI governance field, with connections to identify promising opportunities.
      • For a more junior hire: your current network may not be extensive but you’re clearly able to build them quickly.
    • Strong project management and organization skills: you can run a pipeline of applications at varying stages, meet deadlines reliably, and keep grantmaking processes running smoothly in a remote, high-autonomy environment.
      • For a more junior hire: you’re reliably organised and can hold a lot of moving parts and juggle competing priorities.
    • (Bonus) Relevant professional experience: direct grantmaking experience or experience in roles requiring similar judgment, e.g. investment, policy advising, or research/technical leadership roles where you’ve had to evaluate complex projects and allocate resources under uncertainty.

If you’re excited about contributing to the fund, but you’re uncertain if you’re fully qualified, we’d encourage you to apply anyway. We’d rather help a great candidate find their fit than have them self-select out.
