  • Role Objective:

Thanks to the passion and dedication of dozens of volunteers, Collective Aid is able to do incredible work supporting tens of thousands of people each year who are on the move across European borders. A vital part of the work we do is drawing attention to what we see, recording he stories of the people we work with, and ensuring those stories lead to systemic change eople on the move are so often silenced and overlooked and our advocacy department is dedicated to ensuring the stories of people experiencing displacement are communicated to those with the power to improve the situation. Managing this department is a proactive role that seeks to cause change and maximise impact.

> International Programme at Collective Aid:

Collective Aid is a grassroots organisation that provides services in Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and Greece. Each country programme has a unique and targeted intervention in the form of projects, which typically involve NFI and advocacy. The International Programme has been established to provide expertise and development advice to the country programmes and for the overlap development of the organisation. The International Programme at Collective Aid functions to ensure cooperation and mutual support among the projects and to facilitate continuity throughout high turnaround periods. The team of the international programme are tasked with support and development tasks throughout the year and are expected to divide their time between all the programmes equally.

As Collective Aid is increasingly invited to conferences, diplomatic events and other high level advocacy meetings, the international programme is often responsible for representing the organisation at such events.

> Key Outputs:

As Manager of the Advocacy Department, you will lead the investigative human rights research pillar of Collective Aid’s work, ensuring our human rights findings across programmes and the investigative research of the advocacy team is developed into meaningful outputs and external engagement. The key outputs are:

Strategic advocacy output

Developing our long-term investigative Total Incident Ecology outputs, aiming to develop and deliver at least three substantial investigative outputs each year.

Throughout each year the advocacy team works directly with programme teams and needs assessment data to identify priority issues, develop research questions and coordinate evidence in order to produce robust, relevant outputs that contribute to Collective Aid’s overall strategic goals for human rights action. These outputs will also involve opportunities for wider cross-department efforts in campaigning, partnership and policy engagement.

Regular reporting

Developing our monthly Lines That Hurt advocacy digest, aiming to produce a brief monthly digest of key human rights and investigative developments from across each programme. Lines That Hurt is a key publication for providing a consistent overview of emerging human rights issues and trends that connect programme-level findings to wider political developments, and identifies areas where further investigation, advocacy or policy engagement may be appropriate.

Stakeholder engagement

Supporting the advocacy team and programme teams to translate investigative research into meaningful local, national and international advocacy engagement. The advocacy team are relied upon to provide strategic advice and support follow-up with relevant partners, advocacy organisations and diplomatic stakeholders, which ensures that Collective Aid research is actively reaching decision makers and policy forums.

> Person Specification:

3+ years experience working in human rights, displacement or related civil society efforts;

Proven experience in advocacy management and human rights issues research;

Demonstrable experience developing and implementing advocacy strategies and research;

Proven experience of stakeholder management, networking and diplomatic engagement;

Prior experience providing training or capacity-building is desirable;

Fluency in English is essential; additional languages, particularly those relevant to our areas of work, are a strong asset.

> Skills:

Strong writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to communicate complexity clearly;

Ability to think strategically, identify opportunities and articulate practical solutions precisely;

Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to develop effective advocacy outputs;

Confidence in building and maintaining advocacy relationships and network relationships;

Ability to manage competing priorities with essential deadlines, meetings and administration;

Strong collaboration and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.

We particularly welcome applicants with lived experience of displacement, experience representing human rights or minority interests, or experience with safeguarding in humanitarian contexts;

> Fee:

We are searching for a self-employed contractor to contract with the Collective Aid Advocacy Department. Collective Aid is able to offer €800 per month for this contract. All contractors who visit our field programmes will be offered food and a rent-free space in organisation accommodation.
