About the Internship

Program: Grantmaking

We are accepting applications for an upcoming remote internship opportunity for Spring 2027 within our Indigenous-led grantmaking funds. The selected intern will report to the Capacity Building Program Manager, and the internship length is for 3 months.

Our grant-making program, in its 10th year of operations, includes Keepers of the Earth Fund, Community Media Grants Project, and Indigenous Youth Fellowship Project that is implemented through a long term vision focused on resourcing the global Indigenous Peoples Movement, ensuring the right to self-determination, and the collective rights of Indigenous Peoples. For Grantmaking, our aspiration is to provide ongoing, long term financial support directly to Indigenous communities, collectives, organizations, traditional governments, and  Indigenous led media. The program hopes to raise the voices of Indigenous women, youth, and relatives from the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Interns applying to this program must have outstanding writing and communication skills. They should be adept on the Internet and creative in Excel template formats, paying particular attention to detail and ability to write concise summaries from resources provided. Additionally, the intern is expected to assist with video editing materials.

Fluency in English and Spanish is highly desired. Portuguese and other languages might also be considered.

We prefer someone independent, self-motivated, creative, and reliable, with a strong interest in learning about Indigenous peoples’ rights, their activism, traditions, conditions, and cultures.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Strengthen skills and abilities in writing for program publications.
  • Develop skills related to video editing materials.
  • Enhance abilities in database management and administration.
  • Develop a connection and knowledge about the current conditions of the Indigenous Peoples’ and Indigenous youth movements happening worldwide.
  • Engage with different Indigenous communities and learn about the ongoing issues that affect them.
  • Learn to work and interact within a multicultural, remote, and diverse work environment with a global impact.

Key tasks:

  • Administrative support, such as document translation, drafting, editing, review, and proofreading in different languages.
  • Produce a variety of written pieces, which may include interviewing, audio transcriptions, translation, and short summaries on grant and fellowship projects.
  • Create multimedia content for publication that uplifts the grant and fellowships projects, such as audiovisual materials and graphic design pieces.

Weekly time commitment

We will welcome a candidate interested in our work and who can dedicate a minimum of 15 hours per week to the internship. Cultural Survival will accommodate the intern’s academic commitments and provide opportunities for a monthly mentorship session within this department.  Upon successful completion of the internship, the intern will qualify to receive an internship certificate of completion.
