As an online communications volunteer intern, you will observe, contribute, and provide feedback on our processes as part of the communications team. This is a full-time, unpaid position for a 6-month period, running from December 2024 to May 2025.
We offer you learning on the job through:
- Assisting the Online team in drafting content for all our active social media channels (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram).

- Supporting the team with creating graphics for Crisis Group’s social media platforms, events and website.
- Assisting in the uploading of Reports, Briefings, Commentaries and other articles to our website, as well as selecting photographs and pull-quotes where necessary;
- Drafting mass mailing campaigns for publications and global media releases;
- Supporting staff in the drafting online media outreach strategies for Crisis Group’s publications and events;
- Monitoring developments in online media;
- Participating in launch strategy calls with analysts in the field to support the launches of new publications;
- Participating in daily and weekly departmental calls;
- Providing back-office support for the Communications Department.
This volunteer position will suit anyone interested in online communications and acquiring a practical overview of a wide range of countries in conflict, developing concise writing skills, and learning how a policy organisation develops its communications strategies. Candidates should have notions of graphic design on Canva, have an interest in conflict prevention and the ability to work well in a diverse team.
Our communications team is based in Brussels, which is our preferred location, though the position can be undertaken either in-person or remotely.
Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their applications by November 8, 2024
