About AKFC

Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC) is an international development organization and registered charity that concentrates on a number of specific development challenges in health, education, rural development and civil society. AKFC partners with communities, businesses, and governments to find innovative, lasting solutions to global challenges. Working in Africa and Asia, we invest in local institutions and systems that anchor progress over the long term. In Canada, AKFC mobilizes funding and expertise, and promotes awareness of global issues. In all of our work, advancing gender equality, inclusion and pluralism are key objectives and approaches. AKFC is an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network, one of the world’s most comprehensive development organizations. Since 1980, AKFC has helped millions of women and men unlock their own potential to build a better life.

Position Summary

The Public Engagement and Resource Mobilization (PERM) team at AKFC is multi-faceted and dynamic. It is made up of highly motivated professionals, whose responsibilities include: the development and execution of public engagement initiatives; the mobilization of financial resources from Canadian individuals and corporations; the management of corporate communications; collaboration with the AKDN and its agencies; volunteer engagement; and the stewarding of relationships with government partners and other institutions.

The Stewardship Coordinator will play a vital role on the Resource Mobilization team. This position will steward and nurture relationships that deepen engagement with AKFC supporters and strengthen the reach and effectiveness of the organization.

With a focus on national volunteer and donor stewardship, particularly for AKFC’s flagship World Partnership fundraising campaigns, the stewardship coordinator will be a main contributor in driving the meaningful engagement that propels our mission forward.

AKFC is looking for someone who is not only a natural around people, but who takes genuine pride in sharing gratitude and delivering on expectations. The successful candidate is proactive and responds with empathy, thoughtfulness, and authenticity to help create meaningful interactions that fuel AKFC’s impact. If you are someone who thrives in dynamic environments and finds joy in making others feel valued, this role is for you.

This full-time role reports to the Senior Manager of Resource Mobilization.

The role is based in Ottawa and some in-office work is required, determined in consultation with supervisors and AKFC’s flexible work policy. Support is provided for relocation to Ottawa if necessary.

The starting salary range is between $49000 and $59000, alongside a competitive benefits package.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and collaborate on engagement and recognition strategies that foster long-term relationships with both volunteers and donors, aligning their interests with the organization’s goals
  • Help onboard groups of national volunteers to ensure they have the resources and support needed to engage effectively with our campaigns
  • Gather feedback from team members and AKFC supporters via surveys and other communications to help inform engagement and onboarding strategies
  • Assist in maintaining and updating digital and printed resources used for volunteer and fundraising outreach, training, and awareness raising
  • Help develop processes and resources to support senior volunteers with volunteer recruitment, onboarding, management, and succession planning for their teams
  • Design and execute recognition and appreciation initiatives that surprise and delight donors and volunteers, enhancing their overall experience
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteer teams and donors during the planning and execution of key events, both in person and virtual
  • Respond to volunteer and supporter inquiries in an expedient and professional manner
  • Ensure that volunteer engagement activities respect AKF’s commitment to safeguarding and respect diversity, inclusion and gender equality

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in fundraising, or customer service, preferably within the non-profit sector
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Demonstrated ability to build meaningful relationships with external stakeholders, particularly fundraisers, donors, and volunteers
  • Strong creative and strategic thinking skills
  • Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to engage and influence a wide spectrum of stakeholders
  • Exceptional communication, storytelling, and presentation skills, both written and verbal. French is an asset.
  • Familiarity with or a strong understanding of peer-to-peer fundraising
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing ideas, sharing expertise, and supporting colleagues to achieve common goals.
  • Proficient computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs
  • Experience with working in Microsoft 365 and Google Suite cloud environments is an asset
  • Ability to manage a flexible work schedule given the nature of working with volunteer schedules
  • Execute duties while upholding AKFC’s commitments to safeguarding, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Genuine interest in and commitment to international development issues, with a desire to make a positive impact and drive social change.
  • Ability to travel within Canada, and work on evenings and weekends as required.
