Organisation Background
Founded in 2011, the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) is an international non-governmental organisation that supports humanitarian aid workers by establishing safety coordination platforms in insecure contexts. INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of free services, including real-time incident tracking, analytical reports, safety-related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff orientations and training.
INSO provides daily support to more than 1200 NGOs operating in 20 of the world’s most insecure countries. INSO is headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands- the international city of peace and justice.
INSO South Sudan
The INSO South Sudan platform addresses the insecure operating environment NGOs face in the Republic of South Sudan. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, this programme supports NGOs providing much-needed humanitarian assistance amid a complex safety and access environment. The team will harness data and insights to provide timely analysis and coordination services to assist humanitarians navigating significant risks to staff and beneficiaries. As part of the INSO South Sudan team, you will be playing an active and impactful role in assisting the delivery of aid to people in significant need.
Job Summary
As a Safety Advisor, you will oversee a team of analysts providing high quality services to NGOs. You will need strong interpersonal and communication skills, networking, report writing and presentation skills. This post is based in Nairobi, Kenya and reports to INSO’s Head of Mission for South Sudan.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Service Delivery
- Provide NGOs with timely and credible security information and in-depth, and nuanced contextual analysis.
- Facilitate and lead regular NGO community security roundtables, presenting trends and facilitating discussions.
- Develop, write and publish INSO’s incident reports and analytical products.
- Assist NGOs in developing their own security management capacities.
- Offer a responsive, tailored analysis service directly to INSO’s NGO partners upon their request.
Program Development
- Actively seek to expand and consolidate INSO’s reach to the South Sudan humanitarian community, through the implementation of a robust engagement strategy and regular in-country visits.
- Cultivate an active network of contacts within the broader humanitarian community as well as other relevant stakeholders for information sharing, analytical exchanges and coordination.
- Assist the Head of Mission in the development and application of the department’s internal processes, product guidelines and operating procedures.
- Lead, support and train a team of analysts.
- Effectively represent and protect INSO’s principles of independence, impartiality and neutrality as well as actively promoting INSO within the humanitarian community.
Requirements
Essential
- Fluency in English.
- Relevant graduate level education or equivalent work experience.
- Outstanding writing and analytical skills.
- Understanding and commitment to the humanitarian principles.
- Excellent networking, diplomatic, and representative communication skills.
- Recent experience working in South Sudan and demonstrable understanding of the context.
- Existing network in South Sudan.
Nice to have
- Experience and understanding of Access, Security, or Safety management.
- Experience in staff capacity development and training.
- Additional language skills relevant to the South Sudanese context.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to meet tight deadlines.
- Detailed understanding of INSO’s mandate & services.

Terms & Conditions
This post is a one-year fixed term (renewable) full-time contract based in Nairobi, Kenya. The position reports to INSO’s South Sudan Head of Mission. We are looking for a start date as soon as possible.
