Consultancy Services for Mentorship Toolkit/Curriculum Design
Nairobi, Kenya – March 2025
ORGANIZATION
AlphaMundi Foundation (“AMF”) is a US not-for-profit 501(C)(3) with a branch in Kenya with a mission to strengthen the long-term commercial viability of small and medium enterprises (“SMEs”) in Africa and Latin America to drive economictransformation. Started in 2016 by the management of an impact investing firm, AlphaMundi Group (“AMG”), AMF has a trackrecord of working on four main pillars of technical assistance, impact measurement, blended finance solutions, and field-buildingrelated to gender lens investing, climate, and other critical sectors. Since 2018, AMF has supported 39 SMEs in 15 countries. In addition, AMF has supported its portfolio companies by leveraging USD 10 million in donor and private funding to provide Technical Assistance grants, which they have used strategically to raise follow-on private investment totaling USD 36 million.AMF’s interventions have seen these SMEs collectively achieve 96% in revenue growth since implementing its projects.
US/JAPAN CLIMATE-GENDER INNOVATION COLLECTIVE FOR AFRICA
AMF’s new program addresses two of the most critical challenges of our lifetime, climate change and gender inequality, throughknowledge exchange and collaboration among mentors from the U.S. and Japan, who offer expertise and support for the benefit ofhigh-impact African SMEs.
Through our program, we expect to provide virtual support to 15 Kenyan climate-focused SMEs with 60-80 mentors (3-5 mentors per entrepreneur) from the U.S. and Japan. Our expected results from the Program include: business growth, environmental and social impact, and partnership and ecosystem impact. In addition to the direct impact on the business (bothfinancial and environmental/social), which can be both short-term and long-term, we expect to achieve broader ecosystem impact, which can be around new forms of partnerships developed between mentees and mentors, or among the mentors.
CONSULTANCY SERVICES FOR THE MENTORSHIP DESIGN
The main objective of this consultancy is to develop a toolkit/curriculum for the mentorship that will guide the program. Mentorshipwill be given to a selected group of Kenyan climate-focused SMEs (with a particular focus on women) by Japanese and Americanprivate mentors. All mentorship sessions, which are expected to be monthly for a period of 6 months, will be conducted virtually.An important aspect of the mentorship program is to also foster relationships between the participating mentors.
Deliverables:
- A comprehensive mentorship curriculum/toolkit that is tailored to the climate-focused SMEs in Africa
- A welcome pack for mentors, that includes but is not limited to:
- Clear expectations and role guidelines
- A month-to-month session roadmap
- Best practices (Do’s and Don’ts)
- Mentor evaluation and feedback forms
- Frequently asked questions
- A welcome pack for mentees:
- Clear expectations and role guidelines
- A month-to-month session roadmap that includes but is not limited to: program kick-off and initial orientation(including welcome session, mentor-mentee matching, goal setting, etc), ongoing mentorship and knowledge exchanges, check-ins and feedback sessions, partnership showcases, networking events
- Best practices (Do’s and Don’ts)
- Mentee feedback forms
- Frequently asked questions
We anticipate the consulting work to take about 15 working days.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
The successful service provider can be an individual consultant or a firm with the following characteristics:
- Proven expertise in developing entrepreneurship support programs, mentorship programs for entrepreneurs, andentrepreneurship toolkit curriculum specifically in Africa, preferably in Kenya / East
- Proven expertise in designing virtual mentorship
- Deep understanding and appreciation for multicultural dynamics, particularly incross-continental
- Sector-specific experience in climate-related industries e.g. clean energy, sustainable agriculture, and circular economy inAfrica, with a focus on integrating gender considerations into climate
- Experience in designing monitoring and evaluation systems for tracking the impact of entrepreneurship programs, includingbusiness performance, environmental sustainability, and gender
- Excellent writing and communication skills in English, with the ability to develop clear, engaging, and high-quality programmaterials including but not limited to curriculum, handbooks and
