The Team

Your Role
The Impact Measurement and Analytics Manager will work with the Director of Impact Measurement and Analytics, supporting various activities, from modeling, measuring, and evaluating grantees’ programmatic impact to collaborating with colleagues to develop and document our organizational measurement practices, systems, and tools. The Manager will work with the Director to ensure that the GitLab Foundation is constantly focused on outcomes and using data to make evidence-based decisions, balancing our desire for rigor and learning with rationalizing the administrative burden to grantees. The Manager will report to the Director of Impact Measurement and Analytics.
Key Responsibilities
Predict and model the impact of investments
- Build low- to medium-complexity return on investment (ROI) models to forecast the Foundation’s key impact metrics and return on investment at individual grant and portfolio levels, aiding investment prioritization; continuously refine these models based on investment outcomes and learnings.
- Produce data analyses and visualizations that communicate the Foundation’s impact to various internal and external stakeholders.
Measure and evaluate investment impact and generate learnings for program strategy
- Assist the Program team in defining goals and creating evaluation plans for grants and programmatic strategy areas. Participate in monitoring activities, help document findings, and compile reports summarizing outcomes and insights.
- Assist in understanding and defining the data needs of grantees, creating impact monitoring and reporting plans, and tracking the the quantitative and qualitative results of grantees post-investment.
- Co-lead with the Director, the foundation’s approach to learning which may include designing new organizational learning policies, and leading reoccuring team learning and reflection meetings.
- Conduct research and literature reviews into the effectiveness of social development, poverty reduction, and income generating interventions and summarize findings to inform future Foundation programmatic strategy.
- Under the Director’s guidance, work to support collaborations with external evaluators and grantees. Assist in identifying and quantifying key investment performance outcomes, ensuring the evaluation methods are appropriate for each grant’s context.
- Help develop and distribute reports and presentations tailored to technical and non-technical audiences to communicate results, lessons, and impacts effectively.
- Assist the Director in updating and improving public-facing impact dashboards.
Manage internal systems, processes, capabilities, and tools
- Assist in the building and refining of internal systems and processes that support the foundation’s capabilities in measuring and evaluating the impact of various grant types including direct service, scaling, and systems-level investments.
- Under the Director’s guidance, help refine the foundation’s approach to organizational learning.
- Participate in implementing and managing new tools and systems, ensuring they are practical and efficient. Assist in regular testing and problem-solving to maintain the quality and reliability of these systems and organization of impact data.
- Support data analysis and visualization tasks, learning to transform raw data into insightful visuals and reports that support the foundation’s strategic decision-making.
- Collaborate with the Program team and engage with grantees to better understand their needs and experiences, ensuring the foundation’s strategies are informed by those we serve.
- Manage, update, and clean the Foundation’s core dataset of grantees’ impact data.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Personal Attributes
- 4+ years of experience in a similar foundation, frontline nonprofit, or private sector role
- Demonstrated mission- and impact-orientation
- Strong research, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and modeling skills; experience in basic statistical methods required; adept at instituting quality control checks and ensuring accuracy in data analysis
- Experience summarizing and translating research findings to inform strategy or program design
- Familiarity with a wide range of measurement and impact tools and systems, including statistical software (e.g., STATA, SPSS, SAS, R, Python)
- Experience developing public-facing data visualizations using tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI, ArcGIS)
- Ability to collect, synthesize, and report data from multiple stakeholders and adapt research products
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with high attention to detail.
- Comfortable with giving and receiving feedback for improvement
- Experience with human-centric design and agile ways of working is a plus
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment and take the initiative on tasks and challenges when presented
- Demonstrated emotional intelligence, integrity, humility, and a commitment to transparency and active listening
Requirements, Compensation, and Benefits
- Fully remote, must be based in the U.S. or Colombia.
- Salary Range: $78,000-$87,000: role-based and location-specific (based on experience. Learn more about compensation at the Foundation.
- Health, dental, and vision benefits (100% of premium covered for team members, their spouses, and dependents)
- 401k: 10% of salary (employer contribution)
- Unlimited vacation time, sick time, and other paid time off
- Additional benefits offered to team members including professional development resources
- Anticipated travel: up to 10% of the time
