Position: Intern, Advocacy and Public Policy
Reporting to: Director, Advocacy and Public Policy
About You:
- Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a post-secondary program in the areas of political science, public policy, communications, or a related field.
- Strong interest in advocacy, public policy, and youth mental health.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proactive, eager to learn, and able to work independently.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic understanding of government processes and public policy is an asset.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Your Impact:
As an intern in the Advocacy and Public Policy team, you will support Jack.org’s mission to advocate for systemic changes in youth mental health. You will assist in research, drafting communications, and supporting advocacy initiatives, contributing to the promotion of mental well-being among youth.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Research and Analysis:
- Conduct research on current policies, best practices, and evidence around mental health promotion and prevention.
- Assist in compiling data and information to support advocacy efforts and policy development.
Event Coordination and Campaign Support:
- Support the planning and execution of advocacy-related events and activities.
- Assist in logistical arrangements and coordination for advocacy-related events.
- Assist in the development and implementation of advocacy campaigns.
- Help manage communications related to advocacy efforts.
Administrative Support and Communications:
- Support the coordination of meetings and events with government officials, key stakeholders, and like-minded organizations.
- Provide general administrative support to the Director of Advocacy and Public Policy including assisting in tracking and reporting on advocacy activities and outcomes.
- Draft briefs, reports, and key messages to support the advocacy agenda.
- Assist in the development of advocacy materials such as infographics, fact sheets, and policy briefs.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Assist in building and maintaining relationships with like-minded organizations and coalitions.
- Support collaborative efforts on joint advocacy initiatives.
Desired skills, competencies
- Enthusiastic about learning and gaining experience in advocacy and public policy.
- Strong writing and research skills.
- Ability to work well in a team and independently.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and G-Suite products.
- Interest in youth mental health and non-profit work.
- Proficiency in French is an asset but not required.

- Previous experience with advocacy and public policy activities
- Previous experience working or volunteering in a political office or election campaign
- Working competency in written and spoken French
- Knowledge of the mental health landscape for young people in Canada
