Background: The Climate Emergency Collaboration Group (CECG) is a philanthropic collaboration between some of the world’s largest climate philanthropies. Our mission is to support and build a diverse ecosystem of actors to drive just and ambitious multilateral climate action that is more responsive to the needs of the world’s most climate vulnerable. Ensuring the success of the annual UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COPs) is central to this mission, and we believe that each COP has the potential to be a catalysing moment for collective action, impactful organizing, and powerful storytelling. CECG is a multi-million-dollar pooled fund administered by Rockefeller Philanthropic Advisors (RPA) with a mission to rapidly deploy funds into the global climate movement to support a strategy that delivers increased climate action.

Description: Purpose of role

The Finance Officer will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting activities of the Climate Emergency Collaboration Group. This role involves capturing invoices, performing financial reconciliations, reviewing and approving expenses, and conducting financial analysis in support of the financial manager. The ideal candidate should hold a Degree in Accounting and have at least four years of experience in an accounting function and be proficient in accounting software.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including capturing and processing invoices related to grantee agreements and funding agreements.
  • Managing operational and programmatic contracts, the reconciliation of vendor accounts and the submission of payments for operational and programmatic contracts.
  • Perform financial reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records.
  • Review and approve expenses in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning in support of the financial manager and operations director.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial reports and statements as required.
  • Assist with annual budget preparation and monitoring against actual expenditures.
  • Assist with the compilation of funder budgets and funder financial reporting.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual or donor audits.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and standards as well as internal policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other departments inside the organization to provide financial insights and support.
  • Provide basic training in financial systems, budget development and management and financial policies and procedures.

Requirements: Experience, qualifications, and skills

  • Four years’ experience in an accounting function, ideally in the international non-profit sector.
  • Grant and Program Accounting experience highly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and analytics tools, preferably Sage, NetSuite, Syft.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 with advanced excel skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
