The Opportunity
The Data Officer role is a junior position, ideal for recent graduates looking to start their career in data analytics and sustainability. The role sits within the Data Team of ASI’s Business Services Unit and reports to the Data Insights Manager.
The purpose of this position is to support the delivery of data services across ASI. This includes assisting in the Data Assessment process for various partner schemes — from data gathering and analysis to visualization and presentation. The Data Officer will also help strengthen data-driven decision-making by supporting data requests, exploring innovations, and providing insights to internal and external stakeholders.
The role involves close collaboration with the Data Team and other ASI units, as well as occasional interaction with external clients.
Core Responsibilities
– Conduct Data Assessments and create insights to inform ASI Program Managers and Assessors.
– Analyze data and share findings with internal and external stakeholders.
– Contribute to various data analytics projects related to internal and external customers, such as investigations or advisory work.
– Support data gathering activities and test new approaches.
– Assist with data cleanup and governance activities, including maintaining Data Standards and Data Governance processes.
– Apply descriptive analytics and communicate insights through visualizations, dashboards, and reports.
– Contribute to implementing strategies and frameworks to enhance ASI’s data management and processes.
– Support capacity building and data literacy initiatives by developing content for trainings, e-learnings, and newsletters.
– Research innovations, technologies, and analytical approaches to improve digital solutions.
– Conduct research on industry and business-related topics.
What You Bring
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
– Strong teamwork skills and ability to contribute effectively to agile projects.
– Experience applying data analysis to real-world problems, preferably in sustainability or assurance.
– Basic knowledge of scripting languages (Python or R), machine learning libraries, frameworks, and SQL.
– Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
– Ability to work effectively in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment.
– Assets: Familiarity with Salesforce or similar CRM systems, GIS, and business analytics tools (e.g., Power BI or Tableau); experience with spatial data.
– Proficiency in written and spoken English; additional languages are an asset.
– Commitment to supporting ASI’s diverse team and adherence to ASI’s Code of Conduct.
Experience and education
– Degree in data engineering, computer science, digital transformation, or another data-focused field (e.g., economics or geography).
– Initial work experience in data science or the sustainability sector is an advantage.
