She Code Africa is a non-profit organisation on a mission to bridge the gender gap in tech, by empowering African girls and women with access to digital skills in technology, bridging the gender gap and fostering economic independence.
With an active community of over 30,000 members, She Code Africa identifies as the largest women in tech organisation in Africa with members from across 20+ African countries, and local chapters presence in 30 cities & tertiary campuses across Kenya, Rwanda, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia, Cape Verde, Malawi, Benin Republic, Algeria and Cameroon.
Since Inception in 2016, She Code Africa has empowered over 62,000 African girls and women with tech skills, resources & employment opportunities in the industry, by offering a variety of training programs to equip its beneficiaries for success. These programs include technical bootcamps, workshops, scholarship programs, mentorship opportunities and headline events such as her annual She Code Africa Summit, all designed to foster technical growth and career development.
Through a combination of online and in-person events, She Code Africa fosters a supportive network where girls and women can learn from each other, share experiences, and build lasting connections within the tech industry.

Role Summary
As a Community Manager, you will lead our community engagement, curate impactful events, manage local chapters, and build strategic partnerships with global tech organizations. You will be instrumental in advancing our mission to bridge the gender gap in technology by providing mentorship, technical training, and career growth resources, empowering women across Africa to thrive in the tech industry.
Key Responsibilities
1. Community Engagement & Leadership
- Oversee the growth and retention of our community of over 42k members on both Slack and newsletter platforms
- Provide hands-on support to members, helping them navigate challenges and opportunities
- Craft conversation starters and foster discussions that inspire connection and collaboration
- Monitor engagement metrics, identifying gaps to enhance the member experience and retention
- Oversee She Code Africa’s community programs like the Chapter and Channel programs
2. Community Strategy and Operations
- Design and implement initiatives that strengthen relationships and amplify impact among members
- Develop and execute community engagement tactics, iterating on and documenting processes as needed
- Collect and analyze community metrics to refine strategy and improve member retention and satisfaction
- Secure partnerships that provide high-value opportunities for members (e.g., discounted opportunities, hiring partnerships, et.c.)
- Maintain and develop standard operating procedures to enhance the team’s success
- Provide other teams with community management support as needed
- Continuously refine processes to scale community engagement and programs that improve members experiences
- Provide direct supervision for members on your team
- Manage and administer community platforms and tools
3. Event Programming & Facilitation
- Plan and execute virtual and physical events based on the different career levels of members that deliver meaningful impact
- Collaborate with the Operations team to ensure seamless on-site event execution
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience working with developer communities and working with women in tech-focused communities is a plus.
- Strong understanding of hybrid developer community building and engagement strategies.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in community management or a related field
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities to inspire and guide both internal teams and community members.
- Strong community management skills, including experience with project planning, budgeting, resource allocation and proficiency in community data & insight interpretation.
- Fluency in English is required.
- Passion for technology education and social impact.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Content writing and content management skills are a plus.
- Strong proficiency in G-suite.
- Ability to work independently and a good team player.
- Familiarity or experience working with or in non-profit organizations is a plus
