350.org on behalf of the FFCSA is looking for a Digital and Communications Specialist who has demonstrated experience in developing, planning, implementing, and coordinating multiple digital and communications campaigns on multiple platforms to build campaign awareness and galvanise widespread support for campaigns.

About the Communications Specialist for FFCSA
This individual must be creative and understand how to optimise online tools and strategies to support campaign objectives. Most importantly, we’re looking for a visionary who knows how to inspire and innovate while dealing with healthy constraints. This role will sit within the Fair Finance Coalition of Southern Africa Team and report directly to the FFCSA Coordinator and South Africa Team Lead
Duties and Responsibilities:
Social Media
- Develop and implement social media engagement strategies for campaign events, key moments and days of action to help achieve campaign objectives, influence public narratives and spotlight impact stories — particularly voices of those most impacted by the climate crisis
- Monitor and analyse the performance of campaigns and share post-campaign data reports with learnings and recommendations with the FFCSA team.
- Regularly create, design and edit multimedia content for multiple social media channels, including social media cards, infographics, and videos, to communicate about the different campaigns and drive social media engagement.
- Regularly write engaging and informative email blasts and blog posts, keeping the FFCSA voice style.
- Facilitate online conversations on social media and maintain audience engagement, thinking strategically about how to drive acquisition and convert online audiences to become campaign supporters and followers who are compelled to take action.
- Coordinate and provide on-the-ground live coverage of actions, mobilisations and events.
Digital Support
- Coordinate and implement web development and management projects.
- Regularly maintain and update the FFCSA website.
- Curate and implement unique, creative and context-specific digital strategy/digital organising strategy to support each regional campaign.
- Through regular check-ins with individual campaigners and in-depth internal team training on different digital topics, answer questions about digital campaigning; advise and guide campaigners on best digital campaign practices that can strengthen campaigns and grow the climate movement; help campaigners understand concepts such as campaign recruitment, absorption, retention, and engagement and integrate these concepts into their campaign plans.
- Innovate, explore and discover newer, more effective digital tools and platforms to provide solutions where there are challenges in the internal ways of working (i.e. improving how the team can give input to the newsletter; developing digital forms to capture partner and group campaign updates) and improve campaign and organising practices (i.e. WhatsApp Communities, bulk-smsing, QR code supporter enlisting )
- Develop, plan and implement internal digital projects that will enhance the digital infrastructure and support the overarching internal digital objectives.
- Keep watch of the activities of FFCSA partners on WhatsApp and social media channels to identify meaningful opportunities to amplify their work.
- Offer digital and social media training with different partners. Including follow-up training and support to ensure and monitor the progress of trained groups and partners.
- Update internal FFCSA channels with information about climate activism, current events, and climate campaigns in Southern Africa.
- Develop and Manage the FFCSA Quarterly Newsletter
Communications Support
- Feed national and regional campaign stories into FFCSA communications and narrative.
- Build and embed FFCSA narratives into different media outputs for different campaigns.
- Write press releases, media statements, and articles such as opinion pieces with support from the comms manager.
- Pitch media outputs to target outlets and producers to get media coverage or publication written pieces.
- Organise press conferences and press trips.
- Coordinate with photographers and videographers to produce high-quality multimedia for campaigns.
- Lead rapid-response communications work in response to climate impacts and campaign developments across Southern Africa and link this to media outputs.
- Help expand existing contact databases by tracking media hits and collecting press and regional communications consultants’ contact information.
- Coordinate responses to traditional media requests from South African journalists.
- Help track and measure communications deliverables in Southern Africa.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Take up digital and communications responsibilities to support coalitions FFCSAÂ is a part of and cultivate relationships with partner organisations to collaborate on joint projects and campaigns.
- Align and work with global and regional partners on broader coalition priority campaigns and issues
- Understand FFCSA ‘s history, campaigns, and theory of social change, and keep current with basic climate science and policy. From time to time, use this knowledge to represent FFCSA ‘s perspective in varied public venues based on geographic location and areas of expertise.
- From time to time, contribute work towards FFCSA ‘s overall mission that is outside of standard responsibilities and instead relies solely on geographic location or work capacity.
Required Qualifications
- 2 to 3 years of relevant work experience in digital campaigning, communications, Journalism or Marketing
-  At least two years of experience in digital advocacy, media or campaign work.
- Strong knowledge of various online campaign strategies and tactics. Proven experience developing media and communications outputs. Ability to clearly articulate and operationalize campaign strategies and plans. Ability to compile a campaign baseline, monitor progress and evaluate the effectiveness of online campaign activities.
- Strong online storytelling skills, including creating content that appeals to multiple target audiences.
- Must embrace the principles of workplace justice, diversity and inclusion and apply them to day-to-day work.
- Organised, detail-oriented and accurate. Able to create work plans and anticipate deadlines. Be comfortable juggling multiple priorities with competing deadlines.
- Confident in managing multiple stakeholders and collaborating in teams/coalitions
- Ability to set professional boundaries. Resilient and able to manage self and keep composure in times of stress. Able to work independently with minimum supervision.
Desired skills and experiences
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Slack, Zoom, WordPress, SalesForce.
- Experience working in Coalitions.
- Understand and keep up current with basic climate science, climate news, and climate finance policy, new developments into digital campaigns.
- Previous experience in climate change or environmental role.
- Interest and passion for climate justice, racial justice, women’s rights, LGBTQIA rights, human rights and other social justice issues.
- Experience working in Coalitions
We are looking for someone who is comfortable working both independently and in teams, highly responsive, and able to lead initiatives as well as take direction from others.
Position Type: Part-Time 28.8 hours a week. Temporary contract for one (1) year.
