Reports To: Associate Director of Communications (U.S. Communications Team)

Location: Remote – applicants must reside and be eligible to work within the U.S. 

Schedule: Temporary, 36 hours/week with every other Friday off

Duration: 6 Months

Hourly Rate:  $32.05/hour (not to exceed $30,000 over 6-month contract period)

ROLE SUMMARY:

We’re seeking a skilled Communications Assistant (Consultant) to support our Communications team in elevating our digital presence, engaging key audiences, and delivering compelling content aligned with our mission. This 6-month, remote consultancy will play a vital role in advancing our communications strategy and strengthening our connection with partners across health systems and hospitals working toward sustainability.

The Communications Assistant will collaborate closely with the communications and U.S. program teams to manage social media channels, contribute to website content, and support the creation and dissemination of materials that inspire action and drive impact.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:

  • Lead and execute content development across digital communication platforms for US programs.
  • Implement the organization’s content strategy to strengthen visibility, engagement, and reputation.
  • Ensure all content reflects consistent style, quality, tone, and subject-matter expertise.
  • Oversee and copyedit program communications, maintaining clarity, accuracy, and alignment with organizational goals.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage multiple content streams and timelines, delivering high-quality materials on schedule.
  • Craft engaging, accessible messages tailored to diverse audiences and platforms.
  • Use content management systems to design, publish, and update webpages on the organization’s websites.
  • Write and help coordinate email campaigns and newsletters using Mailchimp.
  • Support the execution of the organization’s social media strategy in collaboration with the Communications team.
  • Contribute to the development of short-form video and multimedia content to enhance campaigns and program storytelling.
  • Partner with the Communications and IT teams to update, refine, and optimize web content for clarity, accessibility, and impact.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ideally, 3 years of experience in communications, digital media, journalism, or a related field. Preferably within a nonprofit, agency, or newsroom-style environment, though candidates with less experience will be considered if they demonstrate strong initiative and relevant skills.
  • Strong copywriting and editing skills, with a sharp eye for clarity, tone, and accuracy across diverse audiences and platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, consistently meeting deadlines and producing high-quality content in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing organizational social media accounts (e.g., LinkedIn, Instagram, Bluesky) and developing content strategies to grow engagement.
  • Proficiency with content creation and multimedia tools, including Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro).
  • Familiarity with website content management systems (e.g., Drupal or WordPress) and email platforms such as Mailchimp.
  • Comfortable working in Google Workspace and leveraging digital tools for collaboration and project management.
  • Self-motivated and organized, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively across time zones and teams in a fully remote environment.
  • Bonus: Experience or demonstrated interest in health care, sustainability, or climate-related communications.
