    WHO WE ARE
At Thousand Currents, we believe the people most affected by injustice are the ones already building the solutions. Around the world, peasant farmers, Indigenous communities, women’s collectives, and grassroots movements are organizing across borders to transform food, energy, and the commons as  well as the underlying economic systems. Our role is to back them with flexible funding, with the relationships and platforms that amplify their leadership, and with the long-term solidarity that movement-building requires.

Thousand Currents funds, connects, and supports visionary grassroots groups and movements leading solutions in food, climate, and the economy. We support our movement partners in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Asia and the Pacific with core, flexible, long-term grants and value-added services.

    OUR VALUES

  • Research Communications

    JOIN US ON THE FRONTLINE

    Consultancy: Research Communications

    BACKGROUND

In 2023, Unitaid funded Frontline AIDS to evaluate the effectiveness and acceptability of underutilised harm reduction strategies and hepatitis C (HCV) prevention innovations among people who use drugs in community, health facilities, and prison settings across Egypt, Kyrgyzstan, and Nigeria. These innovations include Long-Acting Depot Buprenorphine (LADB), Low-Dead-Space Syringes and Needles (LDSS/N), and integrated hepatitis C testing and treatment. Five research studies and two program interventions are ongoing, with preliminary results available and studies expected to conclude by August 2027.

Findings and insights from these projects are being shared at conferences, workshops, and policy forums in 2026 and 2027. These results will inform WHO guidelines on opioid dependence treatment, overdose prevention, and HCV diagnosis and care for drug users. Additionally, country partners aim to leverage this evidence to advocate for increased resources supporting harm reduction efforts at district, state, and national levels. The goal is to sustain and expand these interventions to help eliminate HCV.

This consultancy will help convert emerging HEPC III evidence into clear, accurate and actionable communications that support policy influence, resource mobilisation and implementation uptake across Egypt, Kyrgyzstan and Nigeria.

Clear, evidence-based and actionable communications products, including briefs, summaries and presentation materials tailored to priority stakeholder audiences including policymakers, health and finance officials, program implementers, and donors. This will include the development of content for effectively communicating about the research at national and international conferences to strengthen the visibility and reach of the HEPC III project’s findings.
    3. Support the project’s advocacy goals by developing key advocacy messages and recommendations with the research and advocacy teams, so the research findings can reach wider, relevant advocacy groups

    Summary of the Role

Village Enterprise seeks an experienced, strategic, and mission-General Counsel to establish and lead the organization’ first formal Legal Department. As the department’s founding member, the General Counsel will operate as a hands-on practitioner as much as a strategist – personally handling day-to-day legal work in addition to setting the long-term legal strategy, at least until the function grows to support additional staff. This executive-level role will serve as Village Enterprise’s lead legal advisor, responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive legal framework that supports Village Enterprise’s global operations across Africa and the United States.

The General Counsel will oversee all legal affairs, advise on compliance with international donor requirements, manage organizational risk, and provide counsel to the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior leadership. This is a unique opportunity to build and shape a modern legal function from the ground up within a rapidly growing, high-impact international nonprofit dedicated to ending extreme poverty through entrepreneurship.

    About WIEGO

Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO) is a global network supporting the movement of workers in informal employment, especially women and people living in poverty. We believe all workers should have equal economic opportunities, rights and protections. WIEGO works to expand research and statistics on the informal economy, promote change through policy advocacy, and build collective voice by supporting, strengthening and connecting organizations of workers in informal employment.

    About HomeNet International (HNI)

HomeNet International (HNI) is a global network of membership-based organisations representing more than 1.5 million home-based workers across 30 countries. HNI works to increase the visibility and recognition of home-based workers, strengthen solidarity across its global network, and use the collective voice of home-based workers to influence governments, employers and global policy. Through collaboration with regional networks and affiliates, HNI supports organising, capacity building and advocacy to improve the livelihoods, working conditions and rights of home-based workers worldwide.‌

    The Project

WIEGO and HNI have long collaborated on research, capacity building, and advocacy to advance homeworkers’ labour rights, including advocacy on the European Union Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). Recent changes to the regulatory landscape have prompted a shift in our strategy towards strengthening human rights due diligence for subcontracted homeworkers.

With funding from SIDA, this project seeks to address key barriers to extending due diligence beyond tier 1 suppliers, including limited data on home-based work; a lack of practical worker-centred guidance, few scalable approaches to addressing subcontracting; and varying advocacy capacity among homeworker organisations. The project will strengthen the evidence base, pilot cluster-based governance approaches in Bangladesh and Pakistan, and promote global corporate accountability frameworks that better reflect the realities of home-based work.

WIEGO and HNI will carry out the project jointly, along with national partners: Labour in Informal Economy (LIE) in Bangladesh and Home-Based Women Workers’ Federation (HBWWF) in Pakistan. It includes a number of activities at the national, regional and global level, aimed at:

National level experimentation – in Bangladesh and Pakistan, the project will support organizations of homeworkers in global garment supply chains to (a) build evidence of the prevalence and conditions of home-based work through spatial mapping of production clusters and (b) design and pilot cluster-based governance models.

Regional level movement building – across South Asia and Southeast Asia, the project will facilitate learning between HNI affiliates, through online exchanges and a regional training workshop in Nepal, in order to develop and test practical worker-centred proposals for how to extend due diligence to homeworkers.

Global level advocacy – engaging corporate accountability advocates and due diligence decisions makers on solutions for extending due diligence to women homeworkers, working towards an interactive toolkit for due diligence decisions-makers.

    The Role

This is an opportunity to lead the coordination and delivery of this ambitious international project aimed at strengthening human rights due diligence for women homeworkers in global garment supply chains.

Working in partnership with HomeNet International (HNI) and national partners in Bangladesh and Pakistan, you’ll coordinate activities across multiple countries, support collaboration between a diverse range of stakeholders, and ensure the successful delivery of a Sida-funded project spanning research, movement building and global advocacy.

The role combines project management, partnership working, donor reporting and financial oversight. You’ll work closely with colleagues across WIEGO, HNI and partner organisations to ensure activities are delivered on time, within budget and to a high standard.

    1. Project Planning and Coordination
      • Maintain the overall project workplan and implementation schedule.
