    About Global Artivism

Global Artivism is a Global Majority-led movement that engages the full power of arts and culture to work toward a just world on a safe planet.

We are led by those most affected by injustice, particularly from the Global South, ensuring the movement reflects the cultural and demographic reality of the world. We understand art as praxis — an active force capable of mobilizing people, shifting narratives, and reshaping systems. Our cultural work is inseparable from struggles for justice, ecological integrity, and collective liberation.

The movement connects artists, cultural workers, and activists across regions, building the infrastructure, relationships, and resources for Artivism to lead lasting change.

    Core Principles and Structure

These principles shape how we work, how we make decisions, and what we ask of everyone who joins us.

    ● Global Majority Leadership and South–South Solidarity.

    ● Distributed Power and Fluid Leadership.

    ● Artists at the Center, Culture as Strategy.

    ● Intersectional and Community-Centered.

    ● Trust Before Scale.

    ● Emergence as Method.

    ● Transparency and Accountability.

Global Artivism is governed by a Global Council representing artists, activists, and movement builders from across regions. The Movement Secretariat is the coordination team that supports the Council operationally.

    The Role

The Admin Coordinator provides the day-to-day administrative support that keeps the Secretariat functioning. You will manage scheduling, correspondence, document handling, and coordination tasks that support the Secretariat. The work is practical and varied, and the person in this role needs to be reliable, discreet, and comfortable managing multiple priorities while working with distributed teams across time zones.

Reports to Project Lead  Community and Partnerships Director (recruitment in progress)
Works closely with  Operations Director, all Movement Secretariat members, Executive Leadership, Global Council

Role titles describe functional scope and help people understand what a role does or who to contact. They do not map to decision-making authority, which at Global Artivism is distributed through governance structures, committees, and collaborative processes.

    Key Responsibilities

    Scheduling and Coordination

    ● Manage scheduling for key Secretariat meetings, Global Council engagements, committee sessions, and external calls — coordinating across multiple time zones. ● Coordinate logistics for virtual and in-person gatherings, including platform setup, participant communications, and materials distribution.

    ● Maintain an organized calendar system for the Secretariat.

    ● Track action items from key meetings and follow up to ensure completion.

    Communications and Documentation

    ● Draft and manage internal and external correspondence on behalf of Secretariat members.

    ● Maintain organized filing systems for documents, agreements, contracts, and key materials.

    ● Prepare meeting agendas, briefing packages, and notes.

    ● Support preparation of presentations, reports, and communication materials as needed. ● Ensure timely and organized information flow across the Secretariat.

    Travel and Event Logistics

    ● Coordinate travel arrangements and logistical support for Secretariat and Global Council members and key events.

    ● Manage event logistics for leadership-led engagements: registrations, accommodations, schedules.

    Systems and Platform Support

    ● Maintain administrative tools and information organization across Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, and other Secretariat platforms.

    ● Support information management: folder structures, shared drives, naming conventions. ● Assist with platform setup and technical coordination for meetings and events.

    Qualifications

    Required

    ● Has coordinated scheduling, correspondence, contractor records, and logistics across a complex distributed organization. Experience gained through executive support in community organizations, activist collectives, or grassroots movements counts alongside formal employment history.

    ● High level of discretion and professional judgment.

    ● Strong organizational skills, with ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and track completion.

    ● Clear written and verbal communication in English, as this role drafts external correspondence and coordinates information flow across the Secretariat. ● Comfort with digital tools: Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, and project management platforms.

    ● Demonstrated ability to work independently and take ownership of recurring coordination tasks.

    ● Commitment to Global Artivism’s values, mission, and guiding principles.

    Preferred

    ● Experience supporting senior leadership in international nonprofit, movement, or civil society organizations.

    ● Experience coordinating across global, multicultural teams and time zones. ● Multilingual ability — languages relevant to Global South contexts strongly valued. ● Familiarity with arts, culture, or activism sectors.

    Compensation and Work Arrangement

Monthly contractor fee: USD $1,500 to $2,500/month

All figures are monthly contractor fees, not employment salaries. This is an independent contractor engagement managed through Global Artivism’s fiscal sponsorship structure.

This role involves regular coordination across time zones. Contractors set their own schedules and are expected to participate in scheduled meetings and collaborative sessions, which are distributed across time zones where possible.

    What We Offer

    ● Connection to a global network of Artivists, movement organizers, and cultural changemakers.

    ● Access to movement learning spaces and professional development opportunities. ● Flexible remote work environment.

    Our Commitment

We prioritize candidates from the Global South and Global Majority communities. We value movement experience, community organizing, and self-taught practice alongside formal credentials.

For this role, we give equal consideration to experience gained through supporting community organizations, grassroots campaigns, or activist collectives as we would to formal administrative employment.

  • Research Consultant

    Research Consultant

CIVICUS Digital Democracy Initiative (DDI) TERMS OF REFERENCE (ToR)
    Overview:

Civil society’s ability to organise, advocate, and protect civic space is increasingly shaped by digital infrastructure it does not control. Commercial platforms, concentrated cloud services, and extractive data models expose civil society actors – particularly those in restrictive contexts – to surveillance, censorship, and sudden disruption. Building on CIVICUS’ previous work From Platforms to Commonsa field guide mapping participatory, decentralised, and community-owned digital infrastructure alternatives for civil society, prepared by Human Future Agency for the CIVICUS Coalition Hub in 2025, this assignment sets out to advance that research into actionable guidance: mapping the emerging ecosystem of civic technologies and digital alternatives that strengthen democratic participation, reduce dependency on Big Tech, and enhance civil society’s long-term digital resilience.

The research will be conducted by an experienced consultant and will cover both external-facing civic functions — organising, mobilising, and public communication — and the internal operational tools civil society organisations rely on daily. Grounded in CIVICUS’ civic space innovation framework, the work is understood not as a technical audit but as a collective inquiry into how digital infrastructure can serve as a site of Struggle, Solidarity, and Deliberation — strengthening the conditions under which people can freely associate, assemble, and express themselves.

    Location: Remote (Open) Globally
    Duration: 4–5 Months 2026
    Application Deadline: 13 May 2026
    About CIVICUS

CIVICUS is a global alliance of civil society organisations and activists dedicated to strengthening citizen action and protecting and expanding civic space worldwide. Through research, advocacy, mobilisation and public engagement, CIVICUS works to expose threats to civic freedoms, influence policy and practice, and support collective civil society responses across diverse contexts.

    About the Digital Democracy Initiative

The Digital Democracy Initiative (DDI) is a programme that emerged from Denmark’s Tech for Democracy initiative in response to the shrinking democratic and civic space. Its objective is “to promote and protect local inclusive democratic space in the digital era.” The initiative is implemented by a consortium of partners comprising Access Now, CIVICUS, Digital Defenders Partnership, Global Focus, European Partnership for Democracy, Fondo de Mujeres del Sur, Witness, and IWGIA. The Digital Democracy Initiative, Enable & Amplify Project, led by CIVICUS in partnership with Global Focus, aims to see that inclusive democracy and civic space are expanded and protected through the improved use of digital technology for civic engagement. Its target groups are local civil society actors operating in restrictive contexts in the global south.

    Background & Rationale

Civil society in 2025 operates in an environment shaped by political turbulence, economic uncertainty and rapid technological change. According to the CIVICUS Monitor, only around 3% of the global population lives in countries classified as having open civic space, while more than 80% live in contexts that are obstructed, repressed or completely closed. Digital infrastructure has become central to how civil society organises, communicates and advocates — yet most organisations depend heavily on commercial platforms and cloud services whose governance and algorithms are outside their control.

The CIVICUS Coalition Hub’s 2025 report From Platforms to Commons: A Field Guide to Participatory, Decentralised and Community-Owned Infrastructure (prepared by Human Future Agency) documents this challenge in depth and maps a wide range of emerging alternatives — from federated social infrastructure and community data ecosystems to crisis-ready offline tools and collective governance models. This existing body of research provides the analytical foundation for the present assignment.

The combination of platform dependence, information disorder, climate risk and geopolitical fragmentation creates a strategic challenge that affects civil society’s external-facing work (organising, campaigning, mobilising) as well as its internal operations (programme delivery, communications, finance and administration). Traditional tools and assumptions are no longer sufficient.

This assignment builds directly on previously produced research and insights generated through programme activities, consolidating learnings and findings toward actionable, context-specific guidance. It is grounded in CIVICUS’ approach to civic space innovation — which frames innovation not as a technical exercise but as a collective, systems-level, and rights-based practice anchored in the principles of Struggle, Solidarity, and Deliberation.

    Scope of work

The consultant will research and produce a report (estimated 40–60 pages) examining emerging civic technologies and digital alternatives to Big Tech products that support democratic participation and strengthen civil society’s digital resilience. The research must address both external-facing civic functions and internal organisational operations, and will be grounded in CIVICUS’ three pillars of civic space innovation:

    1. Struggle (resisting digital repression and defending fundamental freedoms),
    2. Solidarity (enabling collective action and community-owned infrastructure), and
    3. Deliberation (fostering inclusive participation and new civic narratives).

The assignment will be organised around five interconnected task areas:

    1.       Research Mapping and Literature Review

Review and synthesise existing literature, initiatives, and debates related to:

    • Civic technologies, digital sovereignty, and platform governance
    • Digital commons and community-owned infrastructure
    • Alternative and open-source tools for civil society (both programmatic and operational)
    • Developments emerging from the From Platforms to Commons analysis, updating and extending that evidence base
    2.     Case Study Analysis

Identify and analyse concrete examples of civic tech tools, platform alternatives, and collaborative digital infrastructures used by civil society actors. Case studies should:

    • Span diverse regional contexts, with particular attention to the Global South
    • Cover both external-facing tools (e.g. federated social networks, participation platforms, crisis-ready infrastructure) and internal-facing alternatives (e.g. open-source project management, secure communication, finance and admin tools)
    • Address adoption barriers, governance models, sustainability, and contextual safety risks
    • Reflect the CIVICUS civic space innovation framework — identifying how each case embodies participatory design, systemic impact, or community-led approaches
    3.      Synthesis of Programme and Partner Insight

Consolidate insights from CIVICUS’ own research outputs, DDI programme activities, and partner organisation experiences, including evidence regarding digital tool development, adoption and challenges.

    4.       Strategic Analysis and Recommendations

Identify strategic opportunities for civil society to strengthen digital resilience and reduce dependency on extractive digital infrastructures. Specifically:

    • Analyse identified gap in existing literature (local hosting capacity, language representation, governance capacity, sustainable funding, and regional coordination) and assess how they have evolved
    • Identify sustainable alternative technologies for both external civic engagement and internal organisational functions, with attention to context-appropriate adoption
    • Provide actionable recommendations for how civil society organisations can build, operate, and sustainably scale alternative technology solutions
    • Assess funding and governance models that could support long-term infrastructure stewardship
    5.       Report Development

Produce a well-structured, accessible research report that synthesises findings across all task areas and provides practical guidance for civil society organisations, funders, and CIVICUS partners. The report must be written for a practitioner audience and grounded in real-world examples.

    Deliverables
    Deliverable Description
Inception Note A concise document (max 5 pages) presenting the consultant’s interpretation of the scope, proposed methodology, research questions, outline structure for the final report, and a work plan with milestones.
Research Mapping Brief An annotated overview (approx. 10–15 pages) of key literature, notable initiatives, and selected case study candidates. This document should update and extend the From Platforms to Commons landscape — flagging developments since that report and identifying areas requiring deeper investigation. Coverage should include both external civic tech and internal organisational tools.
Draft Report A full draft report (estimated 40–60 pages) for internal CIVICUS review. The report should include: executive summary; contextual analysis; thematic sections on key mechanisms and tools (both external and internal facing); regional perspectives; strategic recommendations aligned to the CIVICUS civic space innovation framework; and practical guidance for practitioners. Tables, case study boxes, and a glossary are expected.
Final Report Revised publication incorporating CIVICUS feedback on the draft. The final report should be publication-ready and formatted for dissemination to civil society audiences, donors, and partners.
Presentation A concise presentation (slide deck, max 20 slides) of key findings and recommendations for CIVICUS DDI partners, and relevant external stakeholders. The presentation should be accessible to non-specialist audiences and highlight practical implications.
    Reporting and Coordination

The consultant will report to the DDI Project Learning & Communications Officer and the DDI Programme Coordinator, and will coordinate with CIVICUS research, campaigns, and civic tech teams where relevant.

    Required Qualifications

    Applicants should demonstrate:

    • Experience researching technology governance, digital democracy, or civic space
    • Understanding of civic tech ecosystems, platform governance, or digital commons
    • Strong analytical and research writing skills
    • Experience working with international civil society organisations, particularly in Global South contexts
    Application Requirements

    Applicants should submit:

    • Technical proposal (max 5 pages) outlining approach and methodology

    ▪   About HuMENA

HuMENA for Human Rights and Civic Engagement is a non-profit, non-partisan human rights organization rooted in the Middle East and North Africa and connected to its diasporas. Registered in Belgium and operating throughits Brussels headquarters, Beirut office, and team members across the region, HuMENA works to defend and expand civic space, protect human rights defenders, and strengthen civil society actors working under repression, displacement, and shrinking public freedoms.

HuMENA places human rights defenders at the center of its work. The organization supports HRDs, activists, journalists, grassroots organizers, and marginalized civic actors through protection-oriented support, capacity-building, strategic communications, evidence-based advocacy, and international engagement. Its advocacy isconducted for and with human rights defenders, ensuring that their priorities, analysis, safety, and agency shapeHuMENA’s public positions, policy recommendations, and engagement with regional and international actors.

HuMENA’s work focuses on the rights and conditions that make civic action possible: freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, association, digital civic space, access to public participation, and protection from reprisals. The organization combines documentation, research, policy analysis, capacity-building, protection-oriented support, strategic communications, and international advocacy to respond to patterns of repression affecting civic actors in the region and in exile.

Across its programs, HuMENA works on civic space monitoring and advocacy, protection of defenders, peoplepower and movement support, and activism in exile. Its cross-cutting work addresses digital rights, transnational repression, gender and sexuality, and intersectional justice. HuMENA places particular emphasis on connectinglocal and regional realities with international advocacy spaces while ensuring that its work remains grounded in the experiences, priorities, and safety of affected communities and human rights defenders.

    ▪   About the Position

As HuMENA expands its programs, partnerships, and team, the organization is seeking a Programs Lead to strengthen internal coordination, project delivery, and operational systems. The role is designed to help HuMENA build the structures that allow the organization to grow sustainably, and to ensure that projects, consultants, deliverables, donor obligations, and internal workflows are tracked and implemented consistently.

The Programs Lead will coordinate work across HuMENA’s Brussels headquarters, Beirut office, and team members based across the MENA region, and will work closely with the Executive Director to manage the day-to-day operational and programmatic life of the organization. Strategic decisions, external positioning, political representation, and final approvals remain at the leadership level.

    ▪   Who We Are Looking For

HuMENA is seeking an experienced coordinator who brings structure, consistency, and accountability to the day-to-day work of a growing human rights organization. The successful candidate will combine strong projectmanagement skills with sound political judgment, and will be comfortable working independently across multiple workstreams, deadlines, and stakeholders.

The role calls for someone who can build and maintain operational systems, anticipate risks before they escalate, and move work forward consistently across the team and external collaborators. Candidates should be confident operating within defined boundaries of authority, comfortable representing the organization in professional and public settings, exercising discretion in sensitive contexts, and contributing to a working culture grounded in care, accountability, and professionalism.

In short, HuMENA is looking for someone who turns scattered tasks into clear systems, follows upwithout being reminded, anticipates risks before they escalate, and moves work forward with discretion and care.

    ▪   Working Arrangement and Inclusion

This is a remote position. HuMENA strongly encourages applications from candidates based in the MENA region or from the Global South, with a clear preference for those who bring substantial professional experience working with MENA civil society and human rights organizations.

HuMENA builds its team around contextual knowledge, lived experience, professional integrity, and accountability to the communities and movements with which it works. Applications are particularly encouraged from:

    • Women and LGBTQI+ persons
      • People from marginalized communities and people with disabilities
      • Refugees, migrants, and formerly exiled persons
      • Individuals from communities directly affected by repression, displacement, discrimination, or shrinking civic space

HuMENA welcomes applications regardless of gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, age, migration status, or socio-economic background, and values practical experience and demonstrated commitment to human rights work alongside formal academic credentials.

Because HuMENA works on sensitive human rights issues, candidates should be able to assess and manage the personal and operational risks associated with their location, communications, and association with the organization.

The role may include selected external engagement, such as representing HuMENA in coordination meetings, partner calls, donor check-ins, webinars, and professional events where appropriate. Candidates should be comfortable being identified with the organization in professional settings. Public-facing responsibilities will be agreed in advance and calibrated to the candidate’s safety context, role boundaries, and informed consent.

HuMENA is committed to ensuring that working arrangements and external engagement are calibrated to each individual’s specific context, with attention to safety, discretion, and do-no-harm principles throughout the recruitment process and the assignment.

    ▪   Scope of Work

      • Develop and maintain project workplans, implementation trackers, and internal calendars
      • Identify delays, risks, and bottlenecks early, and bring proposed solutions rather than open questions
    • Prepare concise weekly or biweekly progress updates covering status, risks, decisions needed, and pending follow-up
      • Ensure that project deliverables are completed on time, properly documented, and filed according to organizational standards

    2.  Team and Consultant Coordination

The role will hold the operational coordination of the team and consultants, ensuring that meetings produce action and that work moves forward across collaborators. The role will:

    • Coordinate regular internal check-ins and ensure meetings result in clear, tracked action points
      • Follow up on assigned tasks, timelines, and deliverables across the team and consultants
      • Support the drafting of consultant Terms of Reference and scopes of work

  • Communications and Marketing Manager

    Communications and Marketing Manager

    About EduSpots

EduSpots was created to show that communities themselves can design, lead and sustain transformative learning. By unlocking the knowledge and creativity already present in communities, the model turns education into a shared civic responsibility rooted in local ownership and collective action.

In 2015, the first Spot was created by the Addae family in Abofour, Ashanti Region of Ghana, in response to a locked privately owned library in a neighbouring community, built on principles of community ownership, local leadership and purposeful collaboration.

Since that point, over 700 local leaders named Catalysts, including students, teachers and community members, have come together to create 50 community-owned learning hubs known as ‘Spots’ – a concept drawn from the Ghanaian idea of a drinking space. Each Spot is unique, shaped by the identity and aspirations of its community, but all are part of a connected online network advancing inclusive, future-ready education through WhatsApp for Learning and the EduSpots App.

Through the Spots, thousands of learners, or Sparks, take part in playful, community-rooted clubs ’ –across early years education, digital skills, STEM, climate action and gender equity themes ’ – that spark curiosity, collaboration and civic action. Many Sparks grow into Catalysts themselves, with one in four new Spots now founded by those who first joined as Catalysts. From this cycle of change, a movement is emerging across rural Ghana and beyond.

EduSpots has grown through a participatory model in which every Catalyst has a voice in shaping the network’s future. Their ideas and experiences feed into programme design and wider decision-making, with over half of our staff team drawn directly from Catalyst pathways.

As one Catalyst commented in the 2025 independent evaluation: “We’re not just implementing a pre-set model. Our ideas and experiences are actively shaping how EduSpots evolves. It’s truly a collaborative effort.” Find our latest guide book here.

In 2026, the EduSpots team is looking to double its impact by moving from 50 to 100 Spots, reaching an additional 10,000 learners, also widening our reach through its EdTech Innovations as part of the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship, and the launch EduSpots Unlocked to share aspects of our approach with the wider NGO community.

We are excited by our future. Do visit www.eduspots.org for further information.

  • Head of Education

    Head of Education

EduSpots is looking for an experienced, creative and passionate educational leader, to oversee the development of our Education Hub!
