    Position Summary

Are you someone with a creative eye and a professional edge — who cares deeply about how something looks and reads, and who is just as tuned in to the needs of the people you’re communicating with? Do you want to join a dynamic nonprofit that’s committed to creating meaningful change?

This is an opportunity to join Planeterra at the heart of our partnerships team — owning the communications and coordination work that keeps our partner relationships running well, while building direct relationship management experience over time. If you take pride in the craft of communication – in design, in detail, in getting the tone right – and bring that same care to the people and relationships behind it, this role is for you. The role is remote, deadline-driven, and suits someone who holds themselves to high standards – delivering high-quality work on time and on budget.

    What You’ll Do

You’ll support the Partnerships Manager across communication, coordination, and relationship management — taking ownership of foundational tasks first, and expanding your scope as you grow into the role. Your work spans four areas:

    Reporting & Partner Communication

    • Support the development and implementation of partner communication plans, contributing to key messages, formats, channels, and timelines
    • Prepare communication materials — summaries, dashboards, brief updates, and presentations – to support alignment across teams internally and externally
    • Structure and present programme progress, financial data, and results in a clear and partner-relevant way
    • Coordinate the development of partner reports — quarterly, annual, and ad hoc — ensuring clarity, consistency, and alignment with agreed deliverables
    • Support the development of impact reporting to help partners understand the difference their investment makes

    Content & Materials Development

    • Coordinate the development of destination-level communication materials, including content for travellers, guides, and in-destination use
    • Support the creation of visual and written content assets, including experience descriptions, photos, and videos
    • Support the development of partner-facing content, including social media, articles, and communication materials
    • Contribute to impact stories and case studies that demonstrate partnership results
    • Ensure partners are appropriately featured across website content, reports, and publications
    • Support joint communication outputs such as campaigns, presentations, and events
    • Ensure information about Planeterra’s community partners and experiences is consistent, accurate, and accessible across all channels

    Relationship Management

    • Maintain regular working relationships with partner communications, marketing, and fundraising teams, ensuring alignment and smooth coordination
    • Ensure communication activities are well-coordinated, realistic, and aligned with partnership priorities
    • Oversee relationships with DMCs and travel agencies, serving as a reliable point of contact
    • Support the development and delivery of partner onboarding and training materials
    • Over time, take on increasing responsibility for direct account management across the partner portfolio

    Administration, Coordination & CRM

    • Keep the partner and prospect CRM accurate, up to date, and well-organised
    • Support the assessment of new partnership leads, helping to evaluate fit and readiness for engagement
    • Provide general administrative support to the Partnerships Manager, including document preparation and internal coordination
    • Work across teams to gather inputs, ensure consistency in communication outputs, and maintain alignment with brand guidelines and partner requirements
    • Ensure all communication outputs are delivered on time and meet quality standards

    Our Ideal Candidate

This role suits someone who is at an earlier stage in their career but already has a clear professional identity — someone who knows how they work, holds themselves to a high standard, and doesn’t need external pressure to stay on top of things.

    Experience & skills

    • A genuine interest in responsible travel, impact, sustainability, and/or social entrepreneurship
    • Experience in communications, reporting, or content development
    • Experience in the tourism or travel industry is an advantage.
    • Excellent written and verbal English — you can write a clear partner report and an engaging impact story with equal confidence
    • A strong aesthetic sensibility — you know how to put together a presentation that is clear, well-designed, and a pleasure to read
    • Experience working with or alongside stakeholder, partner, or account management functions
    • Proficiency in Canva, Google Slides, or similar tools
    • Familiarity with CRM systems and project management tools
    • Curious about technology and excited by what AI makes possible — you like to explore and experiment.

    How you work

    • Strong listening and interpersonal skills, with genuine interest in understanding partner needs and expectations
    • Highly organised and dependable, with a strong track record of following through on commitments
    • Self-driven and effective in a remote setting — manages time well, communicates proactively, and flags issues early
    • Exceptional attention to detail across all written and visual outputs
    • Professionally adaptable — able to calibrate tone and presentation style to suit the audience, from internal coordination to senior partner engagement

    About this role

    • This is a remote work opportunity; however, candidates will ideally be based in one of the following regions: Europe, North Africa, or East/Southeast Asia would be an advantage
    • Must have the capability to work from home (stable internet connection).
    • Full Time (independent contract at start, possibility for an employment contract in the future, will depend on country location).
    • Attending organizational meetings and events outside of typical work hours may be required due to time zone differences.
    • Occasional travel, both regional and international, may be required
    • Benefits: 15 days paid leave, plus birthday, holiday bonus day, and six wellbeing days
    • All mandatory public holidays based on country of residence
    • Health benefits or allowance depending on nature of employment contract

  • Kofi Annan NextGen Democracy Prize 2026

Kofi Annan NextGen Democracy Prize 2026

    (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

    About the Prize

Launched by the Kofi Annan Foundation (KAF) and the Democracy and Culture Foundation in 2023, the Kofi Annan NextGen Democracy Prize is awarded annually to a young leader aged 18 to 30 and presented at the Athens Democracy Forum. The award recognises exceptional leadership shown by young activists in defending and promoting democracy, and aims to inspire more young people to commit to the advancement of democracy.

Throughout his mandate as Secretary-General of the United Nations and later at the head of KAF, Kofi Annan worked to promote democracy, which he called “a catalyst for better governance, greater security, and human development.” He was also a great believer in youth leadership and inclusion, and he strived to facilitate the participation of young people in local, national and international decision-making forums.

Democracy, however, is in retreat in many parts of the world, with catastrophic consequences, including the toppling of democratically elected governments, the rise of populist and authoritarian leaders on all continents, and outbreaks of conflict and war. Considering the deteriorating state of democracy globally, the Kofi Annan NextGen Democracy Prize seeks to identify and commend inspiring young people who have shown exceptional commitment to protecting and advancing democracy in their countries.

The winner will receive 10,000 USD and one-year’s mentorship with a recognised democracy expert. The winner will also have the opportunity to speak at the forthcoming Athens Democracy Forum, where they will be presented with their award.

In addition, the winner and nine finalists will receive a scholarship to participate in the One Young World Summit 2026, Cape Town, South Africa, which takes place from 3 – 6 November.

Applications are now open for the 2026 Prize, highlighting actions taken by young leaders to:

    • foster genuine participation in decision-making;
    • promote peaceful dialogue on divisive political issues;
    • advance intergenerational exchange on matters related to democracy;
    • give a real voice to people and communities who have traditionally been excluded from decision-making;
    • contribute to or advocate for the organisation of free and fair elections and their acceptance;
    • protect freedom of assembly, freedom of the press and freedom of expression;
    • garner support for the independence of democratic institutions;
    • or fight for reform in both the public and private sectors to ensure that democracy adapts, develops and survives as the pre-eminent method of government.

      • Explain how they know you and for how long they have known you.
      • Explain their understanding of your role.

    Location: Global/Remote
    Duration: 7 months
    Application Deadline: 31 May 2026

    About Us

CIVICUS is a growing global alliance of more than 15,000 members in 175 countries. We work together to expand civic and democratic space. We strive to promote excluded voices, particularly from the global south.

Our Strategic Plan is built on the assumption that we are stronger when we work together. Expanding civic and democratic space requires a collective effort where our members and allies design and test sustainable solutions and deliver impact at scale.

To make this happen, CIVICUS works on five core objectives:

    • Generate timely knowledge and analyses on civil society actions in relation to civic and democratic space
    • Coordinate targeted advocacy to defend and expand civic and democratic space
    • Contribute to stronger emergency and sustained support ecosystems for activists and organisations at risk
    • Strengthen public discourse on civic space and reinforce civil society narratives
    • Build counter power with the most affected groups and their movements

About the Digital Democracy Initiative (DDI) and the Digital Civic Space Strategy

The Digital Democracy Initiative (DDI) is a programme that emerged from Denmark’s Tech for Democracy initiative in response to the shrinking democratic and civic space. Its objective is to promote and protect local inclusive democratic space in the digital era. The initiative is implemented by a Consortium of Partners comprising Access Now, CIVICUS, Digital Defenders Partnership, Global Focus, European Partnership for Democracy, Fundo de Mujeres del Sur, Witness, and IWGIA. The DDI – Project 1: Enabling and Amplifying Action for Civic Space and Inclusive Democracy Project is a constituent Project within the DDI Programme.

After two years of implementation across six regions — East Asia, South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Eastern Europe and Central Asia — the DDI has generated a substantial body of evidence, learning, and relationships that now form the foundation for a formal CIVICUS Digital & Civic Space Strategy.

The Strategy Design Blueprint, developed internally, proposes a structure and substantive content framework for the strategy. It organises the strategy around five thematic focus areas: (1) Digital Security and Resilience; (2) Information Integrity, Disinformation, and Electoral Civic Space; (3) Civic Technology and Digital Democracy; (4) Digital Rights and Policy Advocacy; and (5) Digital Inclusion and Equity — and maps these against CIVICUS’ five core work functions. The Blueprint also proposes cross-cutting considerations including AI governance, partnerships, and financial sustainability.

The next phase of strategy development requires both deepening the substantive content of each thematic pillar and ensuring the strategy is developed through a participatory process that reflects the perspectives of the communities it is designed to serve. This consultancy is central to both objectives.

    Background

Civic freedoms are increasingly contested in the digital realm. Governments, big tech companies, and others are deploying digital tools — from surveillance technologies and internet shutdowns to AI-generated disinformation and algorithmic suppression — to restrict, monitor, and manipulate civil society. At the same time, digital technologies offer transformative possibilities: connecting movements across borders, amplifying marginalised voices, enabling real-time accountability, and building new forms of civic infrastructure.

The implementation of the CIVICUS DDI has generated six critical insights that directly inform the strategy: that digital exclusion is a civic space issue, not merely a technical one; that local actors are the primary innovators; that disinformation is the defining cross-cutting threat; that digital security is foundational infrastructure; that AI demands proactive, rights-based engagement; and that fragmentation across workstreams limits overall impact. These insights now need to be translated into a coherent, evidence-based strategy with clear thematic depth, operational pathways, and broad civil society ownership.

The Advisory Notes to be developed through this consultancy will serve as the primary substantive inputs to the strategy drafting process — providing analytical depth, mapping the global landscape in each thematic area, grounding strategic choices in evidence, and surfacing the perspectives of those most affected. Together with the consultation process the consultant will facilitate, they will ensure the final strategy is both intellectually rigorous and institutionally legitimate.

    Key responsibilities

This consultancy will address a critical gap between the Strategy Design Framework and Blueprint, and a finalised, implementation-ready strategy. The Advisory Notes and consultation process will:

    • Provide substantive depth to each of the five thematic pillars, grounded in current global evidence and the DDI’s own programme experience.
    • Surface the perspectives, priorities, and recommendations of the CIVICUS DDI community, CIVICUS staff, partner organisations, and CIVICUS members and networks – ensuring diverse civil society voices shape the strategy’s direction.
    • Identify gaps, tensions, and emerging challenges within each thematic area that the strategy must address.
    • Generate accessible, shareable knowledge products that can support internal alignment, donor communications, and public advocacy.
    • Inform the drafting of the final strategy document by providing the analytical and consultative foundation from which strategic choices can be made with confidence.

    Scope of Work

This consultancy is expected to cover two interconnected streams of work: the development of five thematic Advisory Notes and the design and facilitation of a multi-stakeholder consultation process. The scope of work includes, but is not limited to, the following tasks:

    Stream 1: Thematic Advisory Notes

The consultant will develop one Advisory Note for each of the five thematic focus areas identified in the Strategy Design Blueprint. Each Advisory Note should be approximately 8 to 12 pages in length and should serve as a standalone analytical and strategic reference document. Each Advisory Note should:

    • Provide a concise mapping of the global landscape in the thematic area, inclusive of key trends, actors, risks, and opportunities, as well as draw on existing literature, DDI programme evidence, and the consultant’s own expertise.
    • Summarise the most significant insights and lessons generated by the DDI in that thematic area, including both what worked and what did not.
    • Identify the strategic choices, tensions, or gaps that the CIVICUS Digital Civic Space Strategy must address in that area.
    • Propose concrete strategic recommendations — for objectives, activities, partnerships, and positioning — grounded in evidence.
    • Be written in accessible, non-technical language suitable for a civil society audience, including CIVICUS members and networks not directly specialised in digital rights.

The five Advisory Notes will cover:

    • Advisory Note 1 — Digital Security and Resilience: individual and organisational digital security; rapid-response resilience support; psychosocial and holistic resilience; legal compliance in digital contexts; peer trainer networks within civil society.
    • Advisory Note 2 — Information Integrity, Disinformation, and Electoral Civic Space: disinformation monitoring and fact-checking infrastructure; deepfake detection and AI-generated content literacy; electoral integrity technologies; counter-narrative production; platform accountability advocacy.
    • Advisory Note 3 — Civic Technology and Digital Democracy: AI-powered tools for civic use; accountability and legal empowerment technologies; offline and low-bandwidth civic participation; the Civic Tech Lab as an integration and scaling mechanism; the civic technology commons.
    • Advisory Note 4 — Digital Rights and Policy Advocacy: tracking digital restrictions globally; advocacy on digital legislation affecting civil society; engagement with global norm-setting processes; platform accountability; AI governance advocacy; coalition building for digital rights.
    • Advisory Note 5 — Digital Inclusion and Equity: supporting CSOs working with digitally marginalised communities; offline and hybrid civic participation design; digital literacy as civic competency; regional equity within CIVICUS programmes; the gendered digital divide and feminist digital organising.

    Stream 2: Multi-Stakeholder Consultation Process

In parallel with the development of the Advisory Notes, the consultant will design and facilitate a structured consultation process with the following stakeholder communities:

    • CIVICUS DDI community: grantees, Digital Action Lab participants, hackathon alumni, Regional Support Mechanism partners, and others who have engaged with DDI programming across the six regions.
    • CIVICUS staff across programmes, including research, advocacy, communications, innovation and membership teams with relevant expertise or implementation responsibilities.
    • Partner organisations working on digital rights and related fields: organisations with specialised expertise in digital security, information integrity, civic technology, digital rights advocacy, and digital inclusion, including DDI Implementing Partners and other relevant civil society actors.
    • CIVICUS members and networks: the broader CIVICUS membership base, including those not directly engaged with digital programming but whose civic space experience and perspectives should inform the strategy.

    The consultation process should include:

    • Design of structured consultation instruments — including interview guides, focus group frameworks, and/or online survey tools — tailored to each stakeholder community.
    • Facilitation of at least one consultation session per stakeholder community, using formats appropriate to the audience (virtual focus groups, one-to-one interviews, online surveys, or regional roundtables as appropriate).
    • Particular attention to ensuring meaningful participation from civil society actors in the Global South, including in languages other than English where necessary for which CIVICUS will facilitate interpretation/translation.
    • A synthesis of consultation findings that identifies areas of convergence, divergence, and emerging priorities across stakeholder groups, disaggregated where relevant by region and stakeholder type.
    • Integration of consultation findings into the Advisory Notes and the overall strategy input package.

    Deliverables

At the end of the consultancy, the consultant will submit:

    • Five thematic Advisory Notes (one per thematic focus area), each approximately 8 to 12 pages, ready for internal circulation and external publication.
    • Consultation design package: instruments, protocols, and stakeholder mapping used in the consultation process.
    • Facilitation of the strategy consultation sessions.
    • Consultation synthesis report: a 10 to 15 page document summarising findings from all stakeholder consultations, including areas of convergence and divergence across communities.
    • Strategy input package: a consolidated document integrating a summary of the five Advisory Notes and the consolidated consultation findings into a set of prioritised recommendations for drafting the strategy.
    • Leading on the drafting of the strategy working in close collaboration with the relevant CIVICUS teams. A final strategy draft will also be reviewed and edited by the relevant CIVICUS team.
    • Presentation of findings to CIVICUS staff and DDI leadership, including a facilitated discussion on key strategic choices.

Desired Knowledge and Experience of the Consultant

We are seeking an experienced researcher, strategist, or civil society expert or consultant (individual or team) with expertise spanning digital rights, civic technology, and civil society strategy development. Demonstrable experience in the following areas is required:

    • Graduate degree in Political Science, International Relations, Technology Policy, Law, Digital Rights, Communications, Development Studies, or related fields. A postgraduate degree is an asset.

    • Experience designing and facilitating participatory processes with diverse stakeholder communities, including in multi-lingual, multi-regional contexts.
    • Familiarity with the global digital rights landscape, including key organisations, coalitions, norm-setting processes, and advocacy spaces such as the Internet Governance Forum, UN Special Procedures, and regional human rights mechanisms.
    • Understanding of the civil society sector and the specific digital challenges faced by civil society organisations, activists, and human rights defenders, particularly in the Global South.
    • Demonstrated ability to synthesise complex, cross-cutting material into accessible and actionable insights for non-specialist audiences.
    • Excellent writing and analytical skills in English. Proficiency in additional languages – particularly French, Spanish, Arabic, or Portuguese – and familiarity with political and technological contexts in the Global South are highly desirable.
    • Experience working with global civil society networks, digital rights coalitions, or international civil society alliances is strongly preferred.

    Reporting Requirements

The consultant will report to the Programme Quality & Innovation Lead. Regular progress updates and milestone reviews will be conducted throughout the consultancy to ensure alignment with the strategy development process and overall timelines.

  • 2026 Interledger Fellowship

The Interledger Foundation (ILF) is committed to building equitable pathways for digital financial access by advancing open payment standards through (digital) outreach and participation via our redesigned program, the Interledger Foundation Fellowship program. The program is open to anyone seeking to advance the domain of digital financial access through the Interledger Protocol and Open Payments by honing the expertise unique to each Fellow.

We are excited to announce a new 2026 grant opportunity: the Interledger Foundation Fellowship. This program is critical to the Interledger Foundation’s efforts to expand digital financial access. During their tenure, Fellows raise awareness, promote thought leadership, increase participation, encourage research, facilitate experimentation, and foster innovation in Interledger Protocol (ILP)-enabled networks and Open Payment Standards. Additionally, their contributions advance our global strategy for change and provide essential tools for promoting digital financial access.

    Why Digital Financial Access Matters

The financial sector and financial technology (FinTech) increasingly shape how people earn, send, and access money. Yet billions of people, especially in the Global South and underserved communities, remain excluded from formal financial systems. Barriers such as high transaction fees, fragmented digital infrastructure, limited interoperability, and weak consumer protections reinforce this inequality.

For the Interledger Foundation, effective digital financial access means leveraging technology to expand access to affordable, secure financial services for all. As we aim to create systems that are equitable, open, and interoperable through the Interledger Protocol, we ensure that innovation benefits people rather than deepens divides.

The Role of the Interledger Foundation (ILF)

The Interledger Foundation advances financial access through open technologies and standards, such as the Interledger Protocol (ILP), to enable seamless, cross-border, low-cost payments. ILF supports research, education, and community-led innovation that makes financial systems more accessible, transparent, and user-driven.

    About the Fellowship

The Interledger Foundation’s Digital Financial Access Fellowship supports innovators, researchers, and community leaders advancing Open Payments, digital financial access, and rights. The Interledger Foundation aims to empower fellows building solutions that make financial systems more accessible, interoperable, transparent, and user-driven, with a focus on underserved communities. To this end, the Interledger Foundation offers a 12-month program in which Fellows focus on socially impactful projects.

This program is ideal for researchers, developers, open-source contributors, entrepreneurs, educators, policy regulators, open-standards practitioners, digital and financial rights advocates, creators, and artists working at the intersection of technology and community.

Fellowship projects vary in approach but share a common orientation toward open standards, access, inclusion, and systemic change.

Projects may span one or more of the following areas:

Systemic and International Impact: Addressing barriers to digital financial access at the level of policy, regulation, or cross-border infrastructure. This includes work with multi-jurisdictional scope or projects engaging underserved populations facing structural exclusion.

Ecosystem and Community Connection: Serving as a bridge between web advocates, open standards practitioners, and digital rights communities on one side, and the Interledger ecosystem on the other. This includes surfacing and connecting community-developed solutions to wider networks and resources.

Innovation and Tool Development: Designing, building, or deploying digital financial access tools for underserved populations. This may include work on micro-payments, cross-border remittance, local currency exchange, or exploratory projects in areas overlooked by mainstream fintech.

Technology Stewardship and Knowledge Sharing: Contributing to the protocols, specifications, and standards that underpin open payment technology. This also encompasses original research, technical documentation, and publications that advance shared understanding among developers, policymakers, and academics.

These areas are not mutually exclusive. Many projects span multiple categories, and applicants should describe their work in terms that reflect its actual scope.

    Key Milestones

The opportunity to apply for this call for proposals opens on April 2, 2026, with a generous stipend of USD 72,000 in recognition of your dedication and a project budget of USD 20,000 to help advance digital financial access.

    How to Apply

To apply for the Fellowship program, applicants must create a Submittable account. Once you have an account registered, you will be able to find the open grant opportunities from the Interledger Foundation.

The Fellowship call for proposals is a two-phase process. Only phase one is an open grant opportunity.

Phase one of the application includes registration and project information. After submission, our reviewers will evaluate it, and if selected, the applicant will receive an invitation to participate in phase two.

Phase two is an interview with the reviewers and the Interledger Foundation Program Team. This is an invitation-only stage. Applicants will receive this invitation only after being selected by the Interledger Foundation for successfully completing phase one.

The Interledger Foundation will require a complete application submitted via Submittable. Incomplete applications that do not include all required documentation or attachments will be returned to the applicant without further review. At its discretion, the Interledger Foundation may request supplemental materials from applicants, and those must be received within 7 working days of the requested date.
