Legal Associate

Working with ISLA’s Legal Directorate in its Collaborations efforts by supporting the implementation of the African Union’s Reform project; the Article 59(1) (of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights) Campaign; and the coordination of ISLA’s activities at the 2024 81st Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights. - Lead Organiser of RIVET x QAN's Activation Event in Kenya. My duties included content creation, procurement of goods and services, preparing communication for social media, communicating with attendees of the event, and putting in place measures to ensure the event is a diverse, anti-racist and safe space for all including women, persons living with disabilities, LGBTQI+ persons, and other marginalised groups. - Prepared grant applications. - Prepared proposal for QAN’s proposed community centre based in Kwale, Kenya.

Trainee Lawyer

Completed training rotations in the following departments: (1) Corporate Commercial, (2) Banking, Finance and Insolvency, and (3) Litigation. Worked on corporate matters ranging from cross-jurisdictional mergers and acquisitions, drafting technical legal documents such as facility agreements, carrying out high-level research and drafting of legal memorandums, and preparing pleadings for intricate dispute matters. Also undertook pro bono matters including preparing legal memorandums pertaining to digital rights and sexual and reproductive health rights for international non-governmental organisations. Worked with multiple teams and partners simultaneously in a high-paced environment. Carried out administrative tasks such as preparing proposals, scheduling meetings, organising trainings and conferences, writing minutes, and drafting communication materials. Engaged in Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives including organising a board training on ESG, as well as planning and executing A&K’s Associates Weekend 2022, whose theme was “Imagining the Future – Emerging Trends in ESG, Climate Change and Regional Integration”. Research Assistant

Assisted in research for a Book Chapter entitled “An Analysis of the Impact of COVID-19 on Peace and Security in Africa”, that will be part of the Book “Contemporary Issues in Politics and International Relations”. I specifically researched on the gender perspectives aspect of the Chapter.

Supported Mr. Mukuki in executing two consultancy projects for the International Nuremberg Principles Academy. These projects involved legal research and writing on the efficiency of the International Criminal Court, Ad Hoc Tribunals, and national courts in trying international crimes; as well as research on digital evidence in the International Criminal Court.

I worked as an editor in Sed Africa, a division of Sed Contra. Sed Africa houses numerous literary and non-literary writing pieces written by Africans. My work entailed editing literary and non-literary works submitted to Sed Africa. I also formed part of the Board of Editors of Sed Africa's 8th Edition.

Marked ‘Introduction to Law’ assignments prepared by over 140 First-Year students within a tight timeframe. Assisted to formulate the marking rubric.

Blog Coordinator

Managed SDRC’s blog platform; worked with and managed a team of 10 bloggers to generate blog content; and carried out research on the implementation of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms nationally, regionally and internationally. Our team published 14 well-researched articles.

Advocacy Fellow

Assisted in WYA’s international advocacy efforts. I was part of the team representing WYA at The United Nations Economic and Social Council (UNESCO) at the United Nations Headquarters and in other events. I also communicated WYA's work and mission to potential stakeholders, developed my research and writing skills through the assignments carried out, and improved my event management skills. The great bulk of my work revolved around compiling a 40-page report analysing UNESCO’s ‘International Technical Guidance on Sexuality Education’.

The dissertation noted the failure of the law to protect victims of domestic abuse, including women, from accessing protection and justice.
