About me
Dr Teurai Rwafa is an exceptional, accomplished, all-rounder global and public health practitioner with programmatic and technical expertise. I have 15 years of experience in strategic planning, development, monitoring, and evaluation of public health needs for both communicable and non-communicable diseases; including designing and implementing programs and interventions to address gaps, and proficiency in program and stakeholder management. This encompasses skills and knowledge in social and behavior change, health systems strengthening, health public policy, emergency preparedness, and leading management teams.
I am also a mixed methods researcher whose work emphasizes qualitative approaches. I have worked in various research capacities and within consortiums, which have provided me with experience in project conceptualization, proposal development, grant writing, project management, data analysis, reporting, and dissemination of key findings. I am proficient in monitoring and evaluating key project deliverables using results-based frameworks, and evidence translation for different audiences, including capacity strengthening and knowledge sharing.
I am enthusiastic about evidence-based decision-making and knowledge translation. My public health interests, research, and publications include key issues in addressing gender-based inequalities, HIV, maternal and child health, food security, strengthening health-promoting health systems, health policy, tobacco, adolescents, mental health, stakeholder engagement, impacts of pandemics, such as COVID-19, and recently global health security. This includes publishing as a co-editor of a textbook on primary healthcare for Southern Africa.

South Africa like many other countries has seen several recurring emerging and re-emerging public health emergencies.
