PhD, Doctor in Social and cultural anthopology

    - Research in the anthropology of childbirth - Presentation of seminars on research advances - Active participation in a research group - Field research and archival work - In-depth interviews with birth stakeholders This thesis studies the relationships between feminism and the movement for the humanization of childbirth and its articulations with neoliberal policies through a historical and ethnographic approach. The emergence of an organization of women demanding non-interventionist policies in childbirth around the 1970s suggests the need to understand how the neoliberal discursive repertoire was produced and introduced within this women's movement, a feminism for the humanization of childbirth. The disturbing advance of the humanization movement towards the market and the entire series of ambiguities in its discursive practices raised a question: how is it possible that a historically critical movement of social, cultural and economic order has sustained or supported (consciously or unconsciously) the construction of policies that threaten women's survival, liberation and political struggle?

  • Universidade Federal de Pernambuco 2012 - 2014

    Master in Sociology

    - Research in the sociology of childbirth - Work with documentaries This research analyzes the rhetoric of humanization understood as the legitimacy of Evidence-Based Medicine, therefore it is understood that this part constitutes a hegemonic field of change in speech production during childbirth. The analysis of discursive practices starts from the problem of incorporating principles of political economy (freedom and non-intervention) trying to understand how they are elaborated based on the context in which they occur. It is observed that, far from breaking with the logic of big business, these discourses can function as strategies for rejuvenating biomedical capitalism and maintaining power relations in the female body. To this end, we chose the activist documentary about childbirth as a privileged corpus of analysis, as we believe that such cultural products function as a tactical tool in the production demands for services based on an intense production of subjectivity.
