  • RTI International, FCT, Abuja, USAID’s Act to End NTDs | East Program 2022 - Present

    Program Officer

 Under the direction of the Implementation Manager and Chief of Party (COP), I provide comprehensive technical support and manage the implementation of Act | East field activities in Nigeria. This involves coordinating with in-country staff, the COP/Program Manager at RTI-HQ, and MERLA staff to ensure program performance is aligned with the Nigeria Act | East annual work plan. My role includes supporting the State Ministry of Health in executing an integrated NTD strategy, ensuring project priorities and outcomes are consistently met, and identifying opportunities for adaptive implementation to enhance program effectiveness under the USAID-funded Act to End NTDs | East program.  In my role, I develop and oversee comprehensive logistics and supply chain strategies to ensure the prompt and efficient delivery of NTD medicines, diagnostic tools, and essential materials to remote locations during Mass Drug Administration (MDA) campaigns. This entails close collaboration with the FMOH SCM team and SMOH (Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Katsina States) to monitor inventory levels, forecast needs, and manage stock effectively, thereby preventing both shortages and surpluses. I manage all aspects of transportation and distribution logistics, guaranteeing the safe and timely delivery of NTD medicines while proactively addressing any challenges or delays. I meticulously maintain records of inventory, shipments, and usage, and provide regular performance reports to stakeholders. Additionally, I ensure compliance with quality standards, address any product safety concerns, and train staff and partners in best practices. By working closely with program staff, government agencies, NGOs, and international partners, I align supply chain efforts with overarching program goals. I identify and mitigate supply chain risks, ensure adherence to regulations, and prepare detailed donor reports that highlight the effectiveness of the supply chain. Moreover, I represent the Act | East program in national Supply Chain Management LMIS Tools, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Technical Working Groups (TWGs), ensuring our initiatives are well-integrated and aligned with national strategies.  I have successfully coordinated with Federal and State Ministries of Health to plan and prepare essential meetings, such as zonal review meetings and technical working groups, and managed the program activity budget. My leadership in designing, supervising, and monitoring routine program implementation across three states annually has been crucial, particularly in supporting the Federal Ministry of Health with surveys and impact evaluations using platforms like Tropical Data. Additionally, I have conducted specific disease assessments and investigations to align future implementations with disease guidelines and enhance overall program outcomes.  My role also involves introducing innovative strategies for NTD control, developing, and delivering training programs for healthcare professionals, and strengthening local capacity in disease monitoring, data collection, and reporting. I have coordinated capacity-building initiatives at various government levels and advocated for NTD awareness and funding, influencing policy decisions and resource allocation. Furthermore, I have fostered partnerships with international organizations and academia to leverage expertise and resources, ensuring comprehensive program management from inception to execution while maintaining compliance with regulatory and ethical standards.  I work closely with the MERLA Manager to develop and implement the Act | East/Nigeria M&E plan, ensuring quality data collection, analysis, and reporting. My efforts include conducting rigorous impact assessments of NTD interventions, producing detailed reports for donors, and developing implementation plans for nationwide scale-up of Disease Specific Assessments and post-transmission surveillance preparedness. I have led various learning activities, facilitated cross-program learning, and supported internal and external evaluations to refine strategies and improve program effectiveness. Additionally, I represent Act | East among local partners and provide technical support for various planning, implementation, and reporting processes.

The leanings are and will be applied in solving ongoing NTD implementation challenges such as cross border issues, low MDA coverages and implementation in urban settings. It was a huge success in the eyes of many, including our main client, USAID. Your work on this crucial session exhibits the Lead Forward behaviors and was an excellent demonstration of RTI\'s excellence. Thank you for the impressive work! RTI USAID’s Act | East Program RTI Rise Spot Award, March 5, 2024 Demonstrating Lead Forward Behaviors through Nigeria OV Pause & Reflect Excellence Pause and Reflect meetings are a wonderful tool on our program to triangulate data on complex problems - but they can be a time investment to pull together! I want to highlight this group as exceptional collaborators to our OV P&R held today. They dug into the data and brought valuable experience forward to facilitate a thoughtful and necessary discussion on Oncho Mass Drug Administration strategies in Cross River State Nigeria. This discussion brought about tangible ideas for adaptation which we can use in the next MDA, as well as some questions we still need to work to understand. Kudos to everyone and thank you so much for your work to make this happen!
