About us

She Code Africa is a non-profit organisation on a mission to bridge the gender gap in tech, by empowering African girls and women with access to digital skills in technology, bridging the gender gap and fostering economic independence.

With an active community of over 30,000 members, She Code Africa identifies as the largest women in tech organisation in Africa with members from across 20+ African countries, and local chapters presence in 30 cities & tertiary campuses across Kenya, Rwanda, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia, Cape Verde, Malawi, Benin Republic, Algeria and Cameroon.

Since Inception in 2016, She Code Africa has empowered over 62,000 African girls and women with tech skills, resources & employment opportunities in the industry, by offering a variety of training programs to equip its beneficiaries for success. These programs include technical bootcamps, workshops, scholarship programs, mentorship opportunities and headline events such as her annual She Code Africa Summit, all designed to foster technical growth and career development.

Through a combination of online and in-person events, She Code Africa fosters a supportive network where girls and women can learn from each other, share experiences, and build lasting connections within the tech industry.

Role Summary

We are looking for a creative, strategic, and detail-oriented Design Lead to take charge of our visual identity, ensuring consistency, innovation, and impact across all our design assets. This role is perfect for a passionate designer who wants to contribute to a mission-driven organization while leading design initiatives that elevate our brand.

As a Design Lead, you will be responsible for shaping and managing the visual representation of She Code Africa. From branding and marketing campaigns to digital content and community engagement materials, your designs will help tell our story and amplify our mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design strategy and execution for She Code Africa’s branding, marketing materials, and digital assets.
  • Develop and maintain She Code Africa’s brand identity across all platforms, ensuring consistency and innovation.
  • Create engaging visual content for social media, websites, presentations, reports, and event materials.
  • Collaborate with the content, community, and media marketing & comms teams to deliver high-impact campaigns.
  • Manage and mentor junior designers, interns, or volunteers where applicable.
  • Stay up to date with design trends and best practices to enhance She Code Africa’s visual presence.
  • Optimize designs for different digital and print formats.
  • Manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines and maintaining high design quality.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in graphic design, branding, or a related field.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing past work in branding, marketing materials, and digital design.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) or similar tools.
  •  Experience creating visual assets for social media, presentations, and marketing campaigns.
  • Strong understanding of typography, color theory, and composition.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate in a remote, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and a keen eye for detail.
  • (Bonus) Experience with motion graphics, UI/UX, or video editing.
  • (Bonus) Minimal to high experience in video editing using tools like Adobe Premiere Pro, Cap Cut Pro or Canva
