Communications Coordinator 

BACKGROUND

The Global Buildings Performance Network (GBPN) is an international non-profit organisation supporting countries to decarbonise the buildings and construction sector.

GBPN is expanding its Africa programmes, with increasing activities across the continent related to sustainable buildings, climate action, and energy transition. As programme activities grow, GBPN seeks communications support to strengthen the visibility, documentation, and dissemination of programme outputs.

To support this effort, GBPN is seeking the services of an Africa Communications Assistant to work closely with the Africa Programmes team to support communications, digital content development, and dissemination of programme outputs.

THE OPPORTUNITY

GBPN is seeking the services of an Africa Communications Coordinator who can work closely with the Africa Programmes team and Global Communications team to:

  • Prepare project write-ups, articles, and summaries of Africa programme activities and milestones.
  • Develop visual communication materials, including graphics, flyers, banners, and social media assets for events and publications.
  • Support the design of graphics and visual elements for reports, publications, and presentations.
  • Coordinate with GBPN’s internal communications team to publish content across communication platforms including the GBPN website, LinkedIn, Instagram, and other relevant channels.
  • Support promotion and dissemination of programme outputs, including reports, toolkits, and event outputs.
  • Coordinate with external partners and media contacts on communications related to Africa programme activities.
  • Support communications planning and materials for events, launches, and programme announcements.

Place of work: Remote
Anticipated start of work: 15th April 2026
Duration: 9 months
Expected Input: 5-7 days/ month

QUALIFICATIONS

We are seeking a communications professional with experience supporting communications and knowledge dissemination in development, climate, or sustainability-related programmes.

The preferred candidate will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a communications-related field from a recognized institution
  • Strong skills in content writing and editing for reports, articles, and social media.
  • Experience developing visual communication materials using tools such as Canva or similar platforms.
  • Experience coordinating communications across digital platforms such as websites and social media.
  • Familiarity with climate, sustainability, or development programmes is an advantage.

All consultant/expert /partner organization……..must fulfill the following criteria: 

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in communications, media, or knowledge dissemination.
  • Excellent English writing and communication skills.
  • Experience in digital communications and visual content development.
  • Ability to work remotely and coordinate across international teams.
  • Access to reliable high-speed internet.

SCOPE OF WORK AND REPORTING

Scope of work

The Communications Coordinator will support the Africa Programmes team with communications and dissemination activities across ongoing projects.

Tasks, Deliverables and schedule

The main outputs from this work will include:

  • Preparation of project write-ups, articles and programme updates.
  • Development of visual communication materials for publications, events, and digital dissemination.
  • Design of graphics and visual assets for reports and programme outputs.
  • Coordination of content publication across GBPN communication platforms.
  • Support for communications related to events, launches, and programme announcements.
  • Coordination with external partners and media contacts where required.

The Communications Coordinator will coordinate closely with the GBPN Africa Team and the Global Communications team.
All final outputs will be subject to internal GBPN review procedures.
The consultant should be available for regular check-in meetings to discuss progress and priorities. These meetings may take place via teleconference as required.

Tools, Guidance and training

The Communications Coordinator will receive support from the GBPN Africa team where necessary.

CONTRACT TYPE AND SCHEDULE OF PAYMENT

  • Duration: 9 months (renewable based on performance).
  • The consultant will work remotely from their normal place of work.
  • Schedule of Payment
    • Payment will be made monthly, upon submission of:
    • Invoice
    • Timesheet
    • Summary of work completed.
